Ashley + Daren's Destination Savannah Wedding at Forsyth Park and Churchill's Pub by Diana Daley

Charleston Place Hotel {Maria + Dan}

The past two weeks we've been semi-MIA (sorry!), but thanks to big move, internet was hard to come by #movingproblems  Now, they we're back at it, we promise to shower you with love, lots and lots of Charleston wedding love!  This Greek Orthodox beauty was captured in the heart of Downtown Charleston by the talented Amy-Marie Kay Photography.  The duo said 'I do' in a traditional ceremony before heading over to the luxurious Charleston Place Hotel where they celebrated the night away with loads of Greek dancing! charleston weddings, hilton head wedidngs, myrtle beach

Folly Beach Wedding {Lauren + John}

If you call the Lowcountry home, then I'm sure you were in heaven this weekend with this beautiful weather we had.  It was so lovely that plenty of people grabbed their towels and sunscreen and headed straight to the beach!  In honor of the pretty skies, I thought we could get Monday crackin' with this beautiful Folly Beach wedding from Red Fly Studios.  These two Bostonians met at a Easter Sunday barbecue where almost everyone there was Irish (including John!) and Lauren had a hard time following conversions, but John was patient with her as the two chatted about their dogs and Lauren was immediately smitten with the kindhearted Irishman and soon the two became inseparable.  While planning their coastal Charleston wedding, the couple quickly selected a rental house on the beach to house their outdoor ceremony and lively reception under the stars.  Aren't you diggin' Lauren's amazing bouquet? charleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings

Charleston Wedding {Darci + Mike}

I think we might have a winner folks!  I'm pretty sure this is the cutest ring bearer I've ever laid my eyes on and I love how he announced his mommy coming down the aisle.  Darci + Mike had an intimate, outdoor wedding ceremony in Downtown Charleston where they emotionally recited their vows in front of those who mattered most to them.  After the couple enjoyed a few sweet treats (who doesn't love wedding cake and Krispy Kreme donuts!) with their guests, the newlyweds spent some alone time n the Holy City with the wonderful Sara Bee Photography!  Thanks to Darci + Mike for sharing their beautiful Charleston destination wedding and best of luck with their little one on the way!

Charleston Yacht Club {Courtney + Adam}

We’ll don’t we have the perfect little Charleston wedding treat for you this morning!  Courtney + Adam enjoyed a gorgeous Lowcountry day along the water at the beautiful Charleston Yacht Club where they celebrated with family and friends.  Thanks to Richard Bell Photography for capturing the memorable coastal afternoon and to Bride Courtney for filling us in on all the details!  From the bride: " Adam and I have been best friends for years now, so this wedding is a long time coming. We are both outgoing people who love being on or near the water, being the beach or a lake. We are simple people as well, but we have our unique hints of creativity as a couple. We wanted to portray that in the details of our wedding when it came to our colors, chocolate brown and Tiffany blue, and our individual decorations. Mason jars are a central decoration piece of our wedding whether they be painted silver or decorated with ribbon with candles. Mason jars remind us of our Southern roots, giving our guests a feeling of comfort and relaxation. Burlap and twine are also other decoration choices that we couldn't do without. They both complement our simple style with a rustic edge thanks to Pinterest. From our window arrangements to our choices of foods, our wedding is what we would call "Savannah meets Charleston" as our love has for the past 3 and a half years." charleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings

Daniel Island Club {Mandy + Greg}

I went to the University of Georgia, so I've got a soft spot in my heart for the color red (actually, I'm obsessed.).  It's such a sassy color and, at times, it can be difficult to properly integrate into your wedding color palette, but I'll tell you what, Bride Mandy nailed it as she gave it a chic, Lowcountry flair!  Mandy looked STUNNING in a fitted mermaid gown, while her gals rocked fabulous, one-shoulder red dresses.  The couple wed on lawn of the Daniel Island Club before enjoying a lovely evening with family and friends.  Thanks to Bri McDaniel Photography for capturing this amazing Charleston wedding! charleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings

Island House Wedding {Ashley + Drew}

Ashley & Drew were married in the beautiful First Scots Presbyterian church in downtown Charleston. The day’s celebrations continued at The Island House on John’s Island under twinkling strands of lights hung from their airy reception tent.  Upon their arrival, guests were asked to sign river rocks as a nod to the bride and groom’s first anniversary. We're loving how the Lowcountry views were complimented by the modern outdoor décor. The bride chose a deep navy and soft ivory color scheme for her flowers designed by The Flower Cottage, guests’ favors, and table settings....and that gown, that gown from Gown Boutique of Charleston is stunning! An exit under a shower of rice made for a perfect ending to their enchanting Charleston wedding night.  Thanks to Riverland Studios for capturing all the details! charleston weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, lowcountry weddings

Yellow and Grey Wedding at Magnolia Plantation by amelia + dan

Yellow and Grey Wedding at Magnolia Plantation in Charleston, SC by amelia + dan, Intrigue Design & Events, Vanity Salon and Bakehouse Charleston

Day After Session {Brooke + Brad}

As most of you know, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to bring you our first ever A Lowcountry Wedding Lookbook that will be available for purchase this Fall!  It’s been a crazy summer as we’ve dove head first into a world of styled shoots, fashion editorials and graphic design (lots of graphic design!) like we’ve never experienced before.  With that being said, it’s been an incredible learning experience and SO much fun, so thank you to my wonderful interns and everyone that’s been involved so far.  I couldn’t do it without you and I really can’t wait to share the end results!  I do need your help with one more little thing though :)  I"m looking for your favorite reception pics, you know, the one’s where your guests are really in the midst of busting a move.  So, if you’ve got an image of a friend, bridesmaid, grandmother or crazy aunt getting their groove on, then send it over to hello{at}alowcountrywed.com.  They’ll be put to good use!  Now, on to the fun stuff because you know I wouldn’t dare ask a favor and not have a little Charleston wedding loveliness to back it up.  Brooke and Brad were actually married in Greenville, South Carolina, but they made their way down to the Lowcountry for a beautiful day-after session in the Holy City with Patrick Hall Photography! charleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston weddings

Not to be weird or anything, but I'm kind of obsessed with today's Bride Christina.  Not only is she stunningly beautiful, but throughout her entire wedding, she has such a gorgeous glow!  Christina rocked one-heck-of-a-gown with a fabulous skirt and a sweet birdcage veil, while Rico donned a stylish white tuxedo.  The duo tied the knot in front of friends and family at Morris Brown AME Church before heading over to Founders Hall for a lively celebration.  Thanks to Peter Miller Photography for capturing this lovely Charleston wedding! charleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston weddingscharleston wedding blogscharleston weddings

Alhambra Hall Wedding {Jamie Lee + Tommy}

I wish every bridal party looked like Jamie Lee + Tommy's.  With the help of Timeless Events, I think these two hit the Lowcountry nail on the head when they were planning for their Charleston wedding at Alhambra Hall in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.   Jamie Lee donned a strapless gown and a comfy pair of TOMS, while her maids rocked classic navy dresses that were accessorized with bouquets of sweetgrass roses.  The men were outfitted in head-to-toe seersucker, and, as I'm sure you can imagine, it was little slice of preppy heaven.  Thanks to Photography & Design by Jenny for capturing all of the lovely details! charleston weddings, blue and green wedding colors

I realize there’s a good chance you’re still trying to catch your breath from Sarah’s bridal portraits we shared this morning, but while we’re on a roll, I figured we might as well keep this party going!  Jeanne Mitchum was behind the lens as Sarah and her husband to be, Taylor,  tied the knot in what was one amazing Charleston wedding day.  The sweet couple said ‘I do’ in an intimate wedding ceremony along the Battery at White Point Gardens a month before their reception and boy was it a beauty!  Their outdoor reception took place at one of Charleston’s favorite venues, the lovely Legare-Waring House where the talented team at MOD Events did an amazing job executing this gorgeous Southern affair.  As usual, Cru Catering wowed their guests with an amazing spread of Lowcountry cuisine, including the fan favorite scallop with lobster risotto. ..and if you're wondering, that's a Peninsula Grill cake!  Amazing, right? charleston weddingscharleston wedding floristcharleston wedding vendorsweddings in charleston sc

Priscilla Thomas Photography {Spotlight}

It’s about time we introduced you to our friend and Charleston wedding photographer, Priscilla, of Priscilla Thomas Photography.  Time and time again, Priscilla delivers beautiful imagery to Lowcountry brides but she always goes a step further to truly create a memorable experience for the Bride and Groom.  She says, “If you just want a pretty picture, then we may not be a fit. But if you want an experience, a visual story crafted with your unique moments, then let me grab my camera and we can see where the journey takes us…” Um, yes please!  We are so proud to have her as part of the A Lowcountry Wedding family and are excited to share her story with all of you today! Give a big ol’ welcome to Priscilla Thomas Photography

Tell us a little bit about yourself…and by a little, we mean a lot :)

  • I was born on a U.S. Air Force base in Keflavik, Iceland, to parents native to Mississippi and Louisiana. My early childhood was spent in Alamogordo, NM, before my family returned to some southern comfort in Charleston, SC.
  • Photography has been a part of my life since adolescence when I worked on the school newspaper and yearbook. During college, I contributed editorial op-ed pieces to The George Street Observer at the College of Charleston and continued to embrace photographic ventures. After college, I started freelancing in photography and writing in Charleston, SC.
  • My passion for photography, visual storytelling, and culture has also fueled a love of travel. Since my junior year in college, I’ve traveled to India, Turkey, Greece, Mexico, Germany, and Jordan.
  • I received a B.A. in Religious Studies from the College of Charleston. Recently, I completed the coursework for a M.A. in Visual Communication with a concentration in Photojournalism and cognate in Multimedia at one of the top programs in the nation at Ohio University.
  • When I’m not photographing, I enjoy reading, short story writing, and such guilty pleasure as This American Life, Samoa Girl Scout Cookies, and indie films.

Hometown...

My childhood was spent in two places. Alamogordo, NM and Charleston, SC.

College/Major...

College of Charleston/B.A. in Religious Studies

Ohio University/M.A. in Visual Communication with a concentration in Photojournalism (still have to defend a master's project...maybe in 2014?)

One crazy fun fact we wouldn't know about you...

I was born in Iceland...and still loathe snow nonetheless.

Give us a little background on how your business came to life...

The business definitely wasn't planned. After graduating from College of Charleston in 2007, I had originally planned to go abroad and teach English. But like a lot of things in life, the plan changed. Instead of traveling, I found myself working full time in an accounting office. Though I enjoyed my coworkers and was fortunate to have great bosses, that professional field just wasn't for me. I considered it cubicle servitude and couldn't imagine doing that for forty years. What eventually led me to photography was going back to my media roots. In high school, I had been on the yearbook and newspaper staffs. During college, I contributed a few op-ed pieces to the George Street Observer. So, I wanted to go back that field, but I wanted to give proper attention to the photos as well. Usually the photographs were just afterthoughts or something to go with the words. But I always love a great story, and a visual one can be more captivating than a 10,000 word novel. So, in 2008 I picked up a camera with a new purpose. It wasn't going to be a mere hobby anymore. I started seeing my mentor, Mikayla Mackaness, and photographing every chance I could. In 2010, I found myself moving to Athens, Ohio, to attend a graduate program in visual communication for photojournalism at Ohio University. And then last June, I moved back to Charleston. I honestly don't consider what I do a business. It's a service. It's a privilege. To be chosen to document a moment in someone's life, whether it's a wedding or just daily life, is an honor and a great responsibility that I do not take lightly. The business stuff just comes with making this a career, but the people I meet and telling visual stories is the reason I stay in this business.

What is the one tip you wish you could tell every bride?

I can only tell one?! I'm working on a welcome packet to tell them a lot of tips! I think one of the most important tips is to never forget what your wedding day is about - the love each of you have for one another. Planning a wedding can definitely be overwhelming. And I think in some ways social media has amplified that. Brides are inundated with wedding related information - example: Pinterest. So don't get too wrapped up in the burlap runners and coral stained ribbon. Plan a wedding that reflects your fiance and you and focus on enjoying your special day.

How can a bride come prepared to her first appointment with you?

The first appointment is really where we determine if we're a good fit. Out of all the wedding vendors, brides need to be most comfortable with their photographer. This is because the photographer is with you the majority of the day. If a bride isn't relaxed around the photographer then it will show in the images. So, the first purpose of the initial meeting is to get to know each other a little better. The other reason is to discuss what they're envisioning for wedding photography. I always like to discuss photo ideas for the wedding and I also make sure that the bride understands my style and aesthetic approach. It's up to the couple to decide if my style and personality is a fit for them. As for being prepared, I think the most difficult part for a bride is determining the style of photography she likes and being able to distinguish styles in wedding photographs. Looking at wedding photos and finding images she likes is a step in the right direction. However, often times it takes a consultation with a photographer to help a couple figure out which style best suits them and their wedding.

In three words, sum up your style...

Candid & stylized portraiture

Favorite wedding image you've ever snapped.

There's one per wedding. This would take too long to tell you about all of them. ;)

What blogs provide you daily inspiration to keep your creative juices flowing (non-wedding related)

Since I come from a photojournalism background, I often look at blogs in that field. New York Time's Lens Blog is excellent. Time's Lightbox. I also enjoy the Image Deconstructed which interviews photographers on how they captured a particular photograph. To hear the photographer's voice, which often times never accompanies the picture, offers greater insight in the photography process as well as what photographers internalize from the people they meet and the experiences they have when image making.

Carolina Yacht Club Wedding {Kate + Nate}

Sometimes it’s a beautiful Lowcountry wedding venue, or an adorable Southern detail, an amazing photographer, a killer florist…I never know what will set our hearts a-flutter!  But there is something about everything single one of the Lowcountry weddings that we post that we just can’t get enough.  And then every once in a while, one comes along that I wish I could have been right in the middle of.  You know, just jump right in the mix and party the night away, because it looked like such a good time!  One of those weddings that people still rave about how much fun it was.  The ones that have guests throwing back drinks, kicking off their shoes and running to the dance floor.  Well, that’s exactly what this Charleston wedding photographed by Riverland Studios was all about! Even though Kate + Nate’s Carolina Yacht Club wedding is stunningly beautiful (and I know you all will go crazy pinning the details), I think the combination of such a sweet couple, their team of truly talented Charleston wedding vendors and a fun-loving guest list in the mood to celebrate, proved to be just what the doctor ordered…a big ol’ Southern wedding bash, Lowcountry-style!  Seriously, some of these bridesmaids dancing are just cracking me up!

Modern Vintage {Decor}

My new favorite Southern wedding detail is incorporating vintage china into your Lowcountry wedding decor. I just love the look of mismatched vintage plates and tableware at weddings. It's so charming, whimsical- and elegant and perfect for our gals marrying in Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach or Charleston.   You know what's even better, you can keep the plates after your wedding to remind you of your special day. Another option, let your guests take their  plates home as a favor.  Here are some pictures to inspire you!
