The NotWedding {Recap}

Some of you may remember me gushing about how fabulous The NotWedding was when it blew through Charleston earlier this summer, well for any of you that we’re unable to attend, I’ve got quite the recap for you to gawk over!  The NotWedding brought together a slew of the Lowcountry’s most sought after wedding vendors for a memorable evening on the harbor at the Historic Rice Mill Building.  Guests were treated to amazing dishes from Good Food Catering, tunes from Charleston Groove Factory and some bubbly as they danced the night away and soaked up all the dreamy inspiration!  Thanks to Izzy Hudgins Photography, Lime Green Photography and Angela Cox Photography for capturing every wonderful detail!

Creek Club at I'On {Kristen + Nicholas}

I know, I know!  Sorry doesn’t quite make up for the complete lack of blogging that’s taken place on ALW over the past week.  I was off in Boston enjoying a business-related vacay, and while I had every intention of getting a few posts in, faulty hotel internet and the pure joy of being semi-unplugged (minus instagram, you know I can’t give that up!) was kind of awesome :)  So, I apologize for the abrupt pause in your daily dose of Lowcountry wedding inspiration and email response, but I’m now officially back and kicking off this week with a gorgeous Charleston wedding from the talented, Richard Bell Photography.   This Bride + Groom combined a lovely pink and purple color palette with some mouthwatering ham biscuits, sweet potato fries and even some Firefly vodka for a one-of-a-kind celebration at the Creek Club at I'On! charleston weddingscharleston wedding programscharleston wedding photographywedding specialty drink, firefly and lemonadecharleston wedding groom in a grey suitwedding orchid boutonnieres charleston wedding vendorscharleston wedding venue creek club at i'onlowcountry weddings at creek club at i'oncharleston wedding bouquet, country & lace floristcharleston wedding father of the bride walking down the aislewedding instagram hashtagcharleston weddings at creek club at i'onsweet potato fries wedding hors d'oeuvres

Middleton Place Wedding {Elizabeth + Justin}

This week, the crew at A Lowcountry Wedding will be feverishly reviewing all the beautiful real wedding submissions we've received from up and down the Carolina coast.  I'll be honest, I've taken a peek at a few and you're going to go crazy at what's in store for our first online magazine!  These big ol' Southern weddings are IN-sane!   So, while get cracking on these submissions, we thought you might to swoon over this dreamy Charleston wedding from Loren Routhier Photography.  Loren is an amazing photography who, not only captures every lovely detail, she also has knack for capturing each and every couple at their finest.  Gorgeous bride Elizabeth and her dapper husband Justin looked oh-so happy at their Middleton Place affair where Duvall Events was on hand to treat guests to a fabulous celebration!

Wedding Details {Balloons}

Balloons! Balloons! Balloons! They are so much fun and are always a great touch to a Lowcountry wedding. Releasing balloons when the bride and groom exit would make an awesome picture for a day wedding! Or tape the strings of balloons at various heights to create a wall; instant backdrop! Use different sizes and shapes, guests will love it! What's a party without balloons anyway!? charleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings

Alhambra Hall Wedding {Christina + Ervin}

Our friend, and new ALW Vendor, Sea Star Arts has had a pretty exciting July!  Just last week, the newly-branded Sea Star Arts (thanks to Gracious Brands!) launched a beautiful website that is sure to knock the socks off any Lowcountry bride on the hunt for a photographer. So, head on over and take a look!  If you're a lover of Charleston weddings then this gal is for you.  As if a gorgeous new website wasn't enough, I'm quite certain any bride that takes a gander will be instantly hooked when they catch a glimpse of Jeni's work.  Just take a peek when she recently teamed up with Pure Luxe Bride for Christina + Ervin's  Alhambra Hall wedding.  It's a beauty, huh?

The Bride's Guide to a Stellar Send Off {Pure Luxe Bride}

You've exchanged vows, cut the cake, and danced the night away with family and friends on the dance floor. Now its time to say goodbye to all of your wedding guests that helped to celebrate your wedding day. As the reception comes to an end, family and friends will gather around to send off the bride and groom. Why not get creative and have a unique departure from your wedding reception? Not only is a creative send off a fun way to end the celebration, but it leaves a lasting impression. To help make this moment perfect, and to get the creativity flowing, Pure Luxe Bride has identified several ideas for the bride and groom looking to depart their reception in style. Send off ideas that Pure Luxe Bride loves....

-  Ditch the birdseed for a handful of colorful confetti! This fun and colorful send off provides a modern twist to the traditional birdseed toss. Not only will this departure be colorful and fun for wedding guests of all ages but, it will photograph nicely. (Most venues will require a bio-degradable confetti which can be found here )

-  Looking for another way to make a bright and colorful exit from you wedding? Decorate your wedding guests with neon glow sticks and neon plastic sunglasses. This retro and colorful exit is the perfect departure for the playful and fun bride and groom.

-  For the traditional couple having a romantic inspired wedding, have wedding guests toss handfuls of lavender upon departure. This sweet and romantic inspired departure is timeless, and will smell lovely as well.

-  Sparkler send offs are always a favorite with Pure Luxe Bride! Who wouldn't want to depart through a tunnel of beautiful sparklers?! This idea is perfect for any theme that the couple is incorporating in their wedding day. For elegant and romantic themed weddings, have a vintage car waiting at the end of the sparkler tunnel. We especially love the 36 inch sparklers from Sparklers Online -they burn for about 4 minutes!

-  Incorporating transportation for departure that is unique to Charleston is another great idea. For the lowcountry bride and groom getting married and celebrating by the water, depart by boat for a true Charleston exit. If you are marrying downtown, exit by bike taxi or find a fun pair of wheels like this Boss Hog from Shuttle Hogs.

Marion's Wedding {Amanda + Nick} Priscilla Thomas Photography

Amanda + Nick's story began when the couple met at the Air Force Academy, so naturally, a ceremony at the Chapel on Base was the obvious decision when planning their dream Charleston wedding!  With the help of CiBi Events, they went with a fusion of Victorian style and country rustic for their big Lowcountry day. Tables draped in rose linen were adorned with eclectic centerpieces featuring combinations of porcelain teapots, silver platters, wood rounds, and fresh floral arrangements from Lotus Flower.  Hamby Catering treated guests to appetizers like crab cake bites, mini corn bread muffins topped with shredded sweet & sour pork, and fried green tomato bites before a buffet styled dinner. The celebration's signature drink, a John Daly, was a mixture of Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka and lemonade. The couple opted for non-traditional dessert options, while they shared a miniature cake decorated in a pale pink, soft blue, and gold then crowned with fresh flowers. A s'mores station served as a tasty palette cleanser for friends and family with an assortment of chocolates, graham crackers and marshmallows. Rustic accents appeared in wood rounds, the dark wood and coffee bean setup of the s'mores station, and the cowboy boots the bridemaids and bride wore.  Thanks to Priscilla Thomas Photography for capturing all the details!

Legare Waring House Wedding {Brianna + Avery}

Bride-to-be Brianna enlisted the help of MOD Events to design an elegant but slightly non-traditional Charleston wedding, which was evident in her chic, blush gown and black engagement ring. Her bridesmaids donned white BCBG dresses and the groomsmen were in black, as Brianna and her husband-to-be, Avery, said their vows before the dreamy Avenue of Oaks at the historic Legare-Waring House. After their romantic ceremony, the couple partied into the night at a reception punctuated by vibrant flower arrangements from Branch Design Studio, delicious food by Royal Grand Events, and a great dance party!  Thanks to Reese Moore Weddings for capturing all the details!

  • I' m obsessed with my dogs, Paris and Ginger.
  • I' m high energy all the time, spinning class is my relief at the end of a busy day!
  • I also love going to the beach when I have time.
  • I drink coffee on occasion but I usually steer away from caffeine.
  • I' m a food brat, partly from my upbringing since my Dad was a chef. I enjoy cooking myself, especially Italian.
  • I'm fortunate enough to have become friends with most of my clients.
  • I change my hair like a chameleon! I just went blonde :)
  • I love to travel! Justin and I travel at least once a year to somewhere warm and tropical.
  • I would take a block of cheese any day over desert.
  • Best concert I have ever been to was Journey! However, my pandora is always set to Maroon 5 in my office! It is sacrilegious not to listen to Maroon 5 at least once a day.

Give us a little background on how your business came to life...

I was born and raised in the hospitality industry so it has always been in my blood, although my degree and background is in marketing. I was born and raised in hospitality but never thought I would work in the industry myself. I started the business for fun, and it evolved when I moved to Charleston. What a perfect spot for this industry!

Tell us a little bit about yourself…and by a little, we mean a lot :)

I was born in New York and raised in Maryland, but my heart belongs to South Carolina.  After spending 6+ years in finance, I rediscovered this love for photography and decided to try and fulfill my dream of building my own business + finally doing something I absolutely love for a living.  And wow – 2 years into it, I can finally say I'm living the dream!  I started out specializing in pet photography, which is something I still do + love.  I've always had a special connection with pets, especially dogs, so that was a natural fit for me.  While volunteering at my local animal shelter in Baltimore, I met another photographer who specialized in weddings.  We became good friends through volunteering and so I asked her if I could tag along and help out with some of her weddings.  She said yes and I fell in love with it.  That was in the fall of 2011.  We moved to Charleston in January 2012 and I spent all of 2012 second shooting with some amazing photographers here in Charleston, learning the business + sharpening my technical skills.  After booking pretty much every weekend, I thought to myself "maybe I could do this full-time and quit my day job" (which I hated).  So I gave myself a deadline – by August 1, I would have a website up and I'd start marketing myself.  Well, as luck would have it, I was laid off from my full-time job on July 31 and so I was pushed into life as a full-time photographer.  But it was the best thing that ever happened to me.  Since then, I've been working hard to build my wedding photography business and it's been amazing.  I think back to my life a year ago and still can't believe how much has happened and how incredibly lucky I am to finally be doing something I absolutely love for a living.

I'm married to my best friend, Brian, and we have 3 dogs – two Golden Retrievers named Camden + Brady, and a small lab-pit bull mix named Beckham.  I love to read, travel + eat… but not necessarily in that order.  I love reality TV, Starbucks, and anything that sparkles.

Give us a little background on how your business came to life...

I've always loved photography.  I can remember using my parent's film Minolta when I was young and I just LOVED taking photos of anything… but especially of my pets.  When my parents got me my own camera one year for my birthday, I was in love.  I took a camera with me everywhere and I still have boxes of prints + albums from my childhood.  I just can't bear to get rid of them!  When I bought my first DSLR camera in 2010, something clicked.  I had always loved photography – capturing moments – but the DSLR allowed me to create art.  I loved that!!  So I dove into it, learning how to shoot manually and taking in as much information as possible.  I started my pet photography business in early 2011 and my wedding photography business in August 2012.  It's been an amazing couple of years!

What is the one tip you wish you could tell every bride?

When you're looking for a wedding photographer, make sure whoever you book makes you feel confident and comfortable.  Feeling at ease with your photographer will only enhance your images in the end.

How can a bride come prepared to her first appointment with you?

I love when my brides come to me with ideas.  Although I rely on my own creativity, it's always great when brides are vocal about what inspires them and what exactly they love about my work, so that I can focus on providing them with great images that they will be over-the-moon excited about.  I guess I really like brides who aren't afraid to speak up and let me know what they are really looking for when they hire me.  It helps ensure that we're both on the same page and that we are the right fit for each other.

There are so many wonderful images, it's hard to choose just one!  Right now, it's a tie between Becca + Jay's portrait on the beach (below) and Stephanie + Jason's portrait on the beach (first image).  I just love the light in the first one and the cool tree in the second one :)  Both of them are on the homepage of my website.  That's where most of my recent favorites live!

It’s Friday and you just cashed your paycheck….what’s your first splurge?

I'm pretty good at saving money and sticking to my budget, but every once in a while, I have to hit up the J Crew outlet for some new clothes :)

What blogs provide you daily inspiration to keep your creative juices flowing (non-wedding related) ?

I follow a lot of designers on Facebook that keep me inspired – Promise Tangeman, Ravyn Stadick, Jennifer Olmstead.  Most of the blogs I read are wedding related or pet photography related.  I gain my inspiration from real life and things around me.  When I'm out and about, I'm constantly inspired by light, architecture, textures, colors + unique locations.  I am always on the look out and thinking of new things I could bring to my work.

What the most rewarding thing about your line of work?

Being a part of my clients' wedding day is so rewarding.  Becoming friends with them throughout the process is amazing and something I cherish.  Sharing + capturing their joy and their love is indescribable.  I'm so blessed.

If you were a major league baseball player, what would be your ‘at-bat’ song?

Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5… that song always makes me want to dance!

Must have Lowcountry wedding detail….

Antique furniture rentals (think 428 Main Vintage Rentals… one of my faves) and lush Southern florals… the perfect combo!

Current favorite color palette:

I've always liked a muted color palette – muted greys, blues, greens, etc.  I'm also loving champagne-colored sparkles right now :)

DeBordieu Club Weddings {Bevin + Casey} Carmen Ash Photography

While we’re still recovering from all that glittery goodness we delivered yesterday, we’re moving on to Georgetown, South Carolina where they deliver wonderful DeBordieu Club weddings that are sure to suit your fancy.  Georgetown is a cozy, coastal town located north of Charleston and just south of Myrtle Beach.  It is home to the beautiful DeBordieu Club which recently hosted Bevin + Casey’s lively Lowcountry wedding.  The beautiful couple brought on the talented crew at Blossoms Events to dazzle their guest with dreamy peony and tulip arrangements, while the bridesmaids were dressed in fabulous LulaKate gowns.  As always, thanks to the wonderful Carmen Ash Photography for capturing this one-of-a-kind DeBordieu Club wedding!

Wedding Details {Place Cards}

One thing I absolutely love about weddings is the small and unique touches. Something as simple as a table place card can really add character and creativity to any Hilton Head, Charleston or Myrtle Beach wedding! Not to mention it can completely influence the entire décor of the reception area. Table place cards are truly a necessity in making sure your reception runs smoothly and that guests sit at the right table.  So why not make yours unforgettable?! Here are some great ideas for wedding table place cards:
