The Summerall Chapel, on the grounds of the Citadel, is my favorite Charleston church. Maybe I'm a little biased, (well completely biased because that's where I tied the knot!) but to me, it's the most breathtaking ceremony venue in the Holy City and I always love to share a Summerall Chapel wedding with A Lowcountry Wedding readers! When you open the doors to the Chapel, the sunlight comes flooding in and it makes everyone go weak in the knees. Every. Single. Time. Just wait, you'll see:) Now, on to the adorable couple Gina + Brandon. Bride Gina started the day with her maids in tow at the Cypress Salon in Summerville, before heading to the Citadel campus where they finished getting ready. After the ceremony, the newlyweds toured the beach and Charleston peninsula with the talented Philip of Studio 1250 for some gorgeous wedding portraits. Then, the duo joined their lively friends and family for an evening of dinner and dancing at the beautiful Francis Marion Hotel.
Lowcountry Wedding Cakes
It always shocks me at the talent and creativity of Lowcountry wedding vendors. Wedding after wedding they design jaw-dropping, Lowcountry weddings that we can’t wait to sink our teeth into…literally! You know we’re always head-over-heels for a stunning cake and luckily for us, Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head are home to a slew of truly, amazing cake artists. One wave of their buttercream wand and…voila, you’ve got show-stopping cake for all of your guests to gawk over and devour, of course :)
Hilton Head Wedding {Celia + Jeff}
You know we never tire of a fabulous Lowcountry wedding around here, especially when the crazy-talented duo of Landon Jacob Productions is on-hand to capture every, single, jaw-dropping moment. When I saw this stunning Hilton Head wedding, I just knew I had to share it with our Lowcountry brides. We've got palmetto trees, a soft, blush color palette, a classic, coastal vibe and an adorable couple. Not a bad combination, eh? The twosome, Celia + Jeff, wed in a beautiful ceremony at the Church of Cross before a lively evening of dinner and dancing (and maybe a few glow sticks!) at the Hampton Hall Club. Celia is an absolute doll (a gorgeous doll, at that). She looked amazing in a dreamy, strapless gown that went perfectly with a smile that she sported throughout the entire event...and who could blame her!

South of Broad {Leigh + Dan}
Boy, do we have a charmer for all of you Lowcountry ladies to peruse as you head into the weekend! When the photographer duo of Sean Money + Elizabeth Fay sent over this precious wedding engagement session, I'm pretty sure I bounced up-and-down in my chair and may have even clapped my hands! I'll go ahead and warn you, get ready for a serious Charleston-style swoon attack. Not only are the engaged couple, Leigh + Dan, absolutely adorable, they had the most stunning South of Broad backdrop (we're talking charming alleyways and cobblestone!). I feel like every single image could be an ad for our favorite Holy City. That last shot...I die. Heaven.
Absolutely breathtaking! Can't wait for the Beaufort Wedding!
Boone Hall Wedding {Bethany + Ryan}
Now, you know I'm a big fan of Boone Hall Plantation...and who wouldn't be? The grounds are scattered with regal Oak trees, that are draped with Spanish moss, and at the heart of it all, you'll find a stunning, Lowcountry Plantation. I know, I know...sounds like Charleston wedding heaven, right? Well, go ahead and thank Reese Moore Photography for sending this one over because you are about to fall in L-O-V-E. Bethany + Ryan tied the knot in a vintage wedding filled with sweet DIY elements at the famed Cotton Dock at Boone Hall Plantation. Sherry Ferguson created the beautiful flowers that went perfectly with Bethany's dreamy pink, white and ice blue color palette while Hamby Catering took care of the delicious Lowcountry cuisine!

Southern Wedding at Cheval Manor Farms by Amber Davis Photography
It's no secret that we love some Southern, burlap details up in here, and for that reason alone (oh, and some seriously gorgeous photography), we're field trippin' it up to Tennessee for this one-of-a-kind Southern stunner. I did a little happy dance when Amber, of Amber Davis Photography, sent over this wedding because I just KNEW you Lowcountry ladies would go crazy over it. Bailey + Chris tied the knot this past October in an outdoor ceremony followed by a tented reception on the grounds of Cheval Manor Farms. The whole event is laced with simple, yet beautiful, burlap details that give the entire day a rustic and relaxed feel. They even treated their guests to a Lowcountry-esque boil, a Smores station and even sent them packing with sweet, honey favors! Oh, and how adorable are those Toms? Love!
Myrtle Beach Engagement by Carolina Studios by Gillian Reinhardt
I can't believe it's already May. After months and months of patiently waiting for warm, summer weather, I've quickly been reminded that my hair and humidity don't mix well...at all. But, I'll gladly take a little frizz as long as that means it's beach season! I adore the coast (and I know all of you Lowcountry brides feel the same way!) and I love when couples incorporate a little salt water and sand into their wedding engagement sessions. Well, Myrtle Beach couple Caitlin + Scott did just that! Along with the help of our friend Myrtle Beach wedding photographer Carolina Studios by Gillian Reinhardt, the sweet duo spent a beautiful Lowcountry afternoon with their pooch at The Myrtle Beach Market Common before heading to the shore...

Lowcountry Wedding {Bridesmaids Dresses}
You've got to admit that our Lowcountry brides have an impeccably elegant Southern style...I think they're just born with it :) So it's no surprise they make sure their maids are dressed to the nines, as well. They keep it sophisticated with a sweet pastel color palette for a classic plantation reception or they'll spice it up with bright, trendy patterns for an oceanside, Myrtle Beach affair. They'll dress their Lowcountry gals in flowy, long gowns that are perfect for a relaxed Hilton Head wedding or they'll keep it short with a sassy cocktail dress fitting of a Downtown Charleston soiree. Bottom line, stick with your oh-so-fabulous taste when choosing your bridesmaids dresses, I promise they'll thank you for it later!
Charleston Marriott Wedding {Jodi + Greg}
Today, we’ve got a Lowcountry soiree from the team at Loluma that is sure to knock your wedding loving socks off! Jodi + Greg wed this past winter in the heart of Downtown at the Charleston Marriott. With the help of Cacky’s Bride Aid, Jodi was glowing in a strapless gown she accessorized with a pair of vibrant blue heels. Ash and Co. Bridal and Moore Make Up were on hand for hair and make up to beautify the bridal party. The men looked dapper in classic black tuxedos that were perfectly fitting of this classic winter fete. The couple said ‘I do’ in a swanky Jewish ceremony in front of their closest friends and family and the talented Joy Marie Photography was on hand to capture it all. Their swanky ceremony site was beautifully designed with gorgeous Chivari chairs, a petal-lined aisle and lots of warm, romantic candlelight. Before joining their guests at the reception, the newlyweds took a quick tour of Charleston while the historic downtown area served as a picturesque backdrop for some truly timeless images. They returned to the Charleston Marriott for what looked like a lively evening of dinner, dancing and some serious celebrating! Once again, Loluma rocked it absolutely stunning décor, jaw dropping centerpieces and a striking winter-y color palette. The crew from Tidewater Catering created a mouth watering Lowcountry menu that kept the guests wanting more and the always amazing Elaine from Elaine’s Events designed the couple’s gorgeous cake. To make sure their guests remember their Lowcountry wedding, the couple sent them home with their very own bag of grits and a recipe for everyone’s favorite, shrimp and grits!

Ring Bearers + Flower Girls {Wedding Attire}
I will tell you what...I love seeing the little ones all dolled up as they stroll down the aisle, introducing their beautiful bride. They're so sweet and innocent and always look adorable which is why the flower girls and ring bearers attire is so clutch. Recently, I've spotted some seriously precious outfits that I just had to share with yall. P.S. I think I've developed a serious tutu obsession. Don't even play, you know they're darling!
Laura + Cory {Charleston Engagement}
If you've ever stepped foot in the Lowcountry, there's a good chance you've developed a soft spot in your heart for the region and I can always see that adoration when checking out a couple's engagement session. Arizona couple Laura + Cory are currently planning their destination wedding in Charleston and they recently teamed up with Shannon of Riverland Studios for this dreamy engagement session at two of my favorite locations; the classic Legare-Waring House and the laid back shores of Folly Beach. From their comfortable demeanor and flawless clothing selections to the stunning venues and romantic photography, every detail was pure perfection. Oh, I forgot to mention that Laura even decorated one of the abandoned boats of Folly Road to create a personalized backdrop!
Sarah + Tyler {Virginia Wedding}
Oh yes, Stephen Gosling has done it again with this irresistible Southern wedding he shot this past September in the beautiful state of Virginia. The couple, Sarah + Tyler, went with a natural color palette that complimented their outdoor, rustic setting. Sarah looked like a sweet Southern Belle in her dainty strapless gown while Tyler looked handsome in his classic black tuxedo. While I may have been drooling over the simple, yet stunning, decor in this wedding, I'm really in love with the images of the couple. The weather and sunlight was perfect and I don't think they could have asked for a more beautiful backdrop. Can we say frame-able!?

Ashley + Quinn {Front Porch Farms Wedding}
Tuesday is always ‘detail day’ around A Lowcountry Wedding and rather than jumping right into our normal post, I thought we’d mix it up a little bit and share a Nashville affair that’s just as sweet as pie! Ashley + Quinn were wed in an intimate, outdoor ceremony atop the soft, rolling hills of Music’s City’s most sought after wedding venue, Front Porch Farms (Lady Antebellum’s Dave Haywood got married there this past weekend!) and Wedlock Images was there to capture it all! This antebellum house and its picturesque scenery was the perfect backdrop for this Spring-y Southern soiree. What I love most is Ashley’s exquisite attention to detail on a small budget. She tackled the bouquets, centerpieces, homemade sweets and jams and, even designed and constructed her bridesmaids’ dresses! Impressive, eh? As you can imagine, the combination of the one-of-a-kind venue, the fabulous details and Mrs. J’s Baking and Catering the guests were raving and craving for more!

Purple Wedding Pavilion at Patriots Point by Chi Photography
Just when I thought I couldn't possibly gawk anymore over a wedding, Chi Photography sent over Heather + Bart's purple wedding Pavilion at Patriots Point and I'm right back to square one! For starters, I die over this color palette of brown, purple and green. I mean, I almost can’t handle it. It's vibrant and rich and just makes me want to see more and more of these gorgeous Branch Design Studio bouquets. Amazing. Secondly, the adorable couple picked the perfect Lowcountry venue to host their nuptials...wouldn't you say? The Pavilion at Patriots Point not only offers a beautiful scenery, but it also allows offers countless options! Heather + Bart had an elegant outdoor ceremony that was accessorized with chic white umbrellas, petals along the aisle and simple, yet stunning, lanterns. After saying 'I do', they posed for portraits with the Charleston Harbor in the background before joining their guest under the tent to get the celebration started. Relish Catering delivered a delicious dose of Lowcountry cuisine while Branch Design Studio transformed the space into a swanky, coastal atmosphere with fabulous centerpieces.
Charleston Wedding Dress Shopping {Brittani}
I'm excited to welcome back our good friend Brittani of Britt Croft Photography. Brittani is constantly working with brides as she captures their wedding day but this year she finally gets to be a bride herself! We've followed her journey as she decided on her gorgeous Lowcountry venue and picked her perfect photographer and today we get to hear all about the dress... .
Hey ALW! I’m so excited to be back and sharing one of my favorite parts so far in the wedding planning process! Yes, I found my DRESS!
I’ll be honest; I was dreading this part of the process. I’m not the girl who had known all along what I wanted to walk down the aisle to my future husband in. I am short and petite with an athletic build, so I was convinced every dress was going to swallow me up and make me look like a big round cotton ball. We southerners love cotton, but we don’t want to look like cotton.
Since my family is still back in Maryland and it was so important to me that my mom and grandmother were a part of the process, I flew home for a weekend solely dedicated to wedding dress shopping. Something I was excited about was having two of the most important ladies to me there for support and honest opinions. It was really special and something I’ll never forget.
I had made an appointment at Ellie’s Bridal Boutique in charming Alexandria, Virginia, and we were off bright and early that morning. I brought in a couple pages torn from a magazine and printed off my computer, and what I handed my consultant looked a little something like this…
I truly felt like my taste was ALL over the place and I had no idea what would work for my body. I also had a very modest budget, because although this is an important dress, on the practical side of things, I’ll wear it once or twice (bridals and wedding day), and that will be that.
My consultant, Crystal, was fabulous and super understanding of my overall confusion and modest budget. She told me to literally just walk around the floor and start pulling things that interested me, so that’s what my Mom and I did, and soon it was time to step into the dresses.
The first dress I put on was a gorgeous strapless Casablanca with rouching and a form fitting shape. I was in love. I could not believe how good I felt. We were all so excited and if the first one went so well, I couldn’t wait to try on a few more! So after a few minutes of oohing and ahhing, I jumped into my second dress. It just didn’t give me the same feeling. Nor did the third. Or the fourth. Or the fifth. Each dress I tried on, I’d compare to the first. I’d say, “It’s nice, but I like the first one better” or “It’s okay, but it doesn’t make me feel like the first dress did.” We were definitely seeing a pattern, so I put the first dress back on and that was all there was to it. That was it! I truly didn’t want to take it off. Crystal put a veil on me and handed me a little bouquet and I literally looked like a bride. I really loved what I saw in the mirror and I was elated with how simple and stress-free the process was!
I can’t spoil the fun and share an image of the dress, but I will say I am in love with Casablanca and for what I wanted (something relatively simple, still elegant, but within a reasonable price), I feel like Casablanca is a home run.
What was the dress shopping process like for you when it was your turn? Or if you’re in the planning stages, re you dreading it like I was, or you know exactly what you want? It truly is a unique experience for everyone but since I was so uptight about it being stressful and “impossible,” I’m so happy that it all came together like it did. I cannot wait to get back into my dress in the next few months for my first fitting!
