Coastal Lowcountry Wedding Inspiration from Kelly Sauer Photography

Charleston photographer Kelly Sauer of Girl in the White Dress must know me way too well.  I'm pretty certain she knew the minute I saw this darling anniversary shoot that it would just set my heart a-flutter...and boy, did it!  The couple, Rachel + Bruce,  headed back to the place where they said 'I do', Bruce's picturesque parent's home, for this sweet inspiration shoot filled with adorable DIY details and loads of Lowcountry wedding charm!  I mean, there's a joggling board and a dock...what more could you want?  The whole afternoon was relaxed and effortless which was evident in Rachel's picnic-esque selection of food (salmon and smoked turkey finger sandwiches, Barefoot Contessa lemon bars, and sweet tea), fresh fruit (pears, lemons, and muscadine grapes) and a little mint to brighten the feel of things. Kelly incorporated soft pops of red as she designed and created the jewelry, bouquets, favors and centerpieces full of happy-go-lucky daisies.  I must say, Kelly's adorable daughter Piper may have just stolen the show in her role as the flower girl...don't ya think?

Red and Teal Wedding Inspiration from Jeray and Kim Weddings

Even though the weather has been overly fabulous the last few months (poor Winter barely got to say hi this year!), we officially welcomed Spring this week (along with loads of pollen!). While Spring has made itself nice and cozy, I have a feeling our hot, humid friend Summer we'll be setting up shop in the Lowcountry before we know it.   Which I'm okay with because you know what comes with Summer months?!  Bright, spunky colors!  Our friends over at Jeray and Kim Weddings teamed up a newlywed couple for a fun, vintage day-after session designed by Brier Rose Design.  With a vivid red + teal color palette, the couple was able to relax for an easy going inspiration shoot filled with darling props and beautiful natural lighting!  We're kind of obsessed with a red and teal wedding palette!

Rustic Winter Wedding Inspiration

Well, my holiday vacation officially started last night...which meant I had to sleep in this morning :)  So, sorry for the delayed post!  But, since we're in the Christmas 'home stretch', I just had to share this rustic winter wedding shoot from the talented twosome of McGowan Images and MegB Designs.  I know it's been unseasonable warm in our neck of the woods, but these images may just help put you in the holiday spirit! From the designer, Meagan Bechtel of MegB Designs:

"My idea for this shoot was really simple – I wanted to convey a beautiful winter wedding scene, without being overtly Christmas or using any holiday cliches. I tried to stick with a few basics – neutral colored china and linens, antiqued silver and mercury glass, various sizes of pinecones, and just a few touches of bright red. We were so lucky to be granted the use of a local Christmas tree farm, which was the perfect backdrop for this scene. When I’m designing, it’s helpful for me to think of what I what I already own, what I can probably borrow, and what I might be able to source cheap, or second-hand. That’s pretty much the basis for my philosophy: beg, borrow, or thrift. I guess my point is, you don’t need a lot of money to set up a fabulous-looking event, or table-scape. We did two table settings, a desert station, and styled a bride and groom, and did it for cheap - my final total for this shoot was less than a hundred bucks: $20 for the whoopie pies ingredients, $20 for the florals/materials, $15 for 5 yards of cotton muslin to recover the chairs cushions/cloth napkins, $10 for a few well-priced Goodwill finds, and about $20 for the candles, peppermints, cranberries, and rock salt. As I did on my own wedding day, I trusted McGowan Images to capture this shoot the way I imagined it. We talked about wanting it to feel wintery, but at the same time, warm and sun-drenched. That's the kind of Christmas you get in Central Texas. I think the images turned out even better than we were hoping for, and I hope they help inspire a cash-strapped bride to think outside the box for winter wedding design."

Sarah + CJ {Fort Worth Wedding}

Just in case you haven't heard, tomorrow we've got an exciting giveaway for our favorite Lowcountry Wedding Vendors...so don't miss it!  Today's wedding was captured by David Lunt Photography at the Marty Leonard Chapel in Fort Worth, Texas.  In case you've never been, Fort Worth is a pretty awesome city.  It's got that Southern ease mixed with a Western Charm which is exactly why Sarah + CJ had to travel all the way from Kentucky just to tie the knot in this fabulous Texas city.  Since having a destination wedding meant that some of their guests would be unable to make the trip, Sarah asked they donate a broach to her which she then made into her beautiful bouquet.  Sarah + CJ let their personalities shine through in their retro chic wedding.  Sarah looked ah-mazing in her Marilyn Monroe-esque gown, fab red shoes and gorgeous birdcage veil while CJ stayed true to himself by sporting a pair of black Chuck Taylors.

Diana + Stephen {Grande Dunes Wedding}

Gillian Reinhardt of Carolina Studios has a way with the camera.  She always does an amazing job of capturing the emotions that come with a wedding.  I'm not sure if it's luck or what, but she tends to work with the most adorable couples...and Diana + Stephen are no different!  This fun loving couple let their personalities shine through in their vibrant summer wedding.  With a lively red and blue color palette, they said 'I do' this past July at the fabulous Grande Dunes Member Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Bride Diana was kind enough to give us a little more detail on her perfect wedding day...

Tell us a little bit about how you met your husband.  How long have you known each other? Where did you meet?
Stephen and I met in back in 2008 when I moved here and started singing in the worship band at Carolina Forest Community Church. Stephen has an amazing talent on the drums, and we grew to be really close as we grew in our faith and friendship over the next 2 years or so leading up to the beginning of our relationship.

Why did you choose to have A Lowcountry Wedding?
I love it here, and all my friends and my church family are here. Stephen is one of the few proud natives of Myrtle Beach, with much of his family living nearby, so it seemed like a no-brainer for us!

How did he propose?  How long were you engaged for?
Poor Stephen’s plans to propose were foiled several times! He was supposed to come up to visit me on my Christmas visit to my parents’ house in New York. Of course, the day he was supposed to fly up, a huge snow storm hit, and he got stuck in Myrtle Beach. After a couple of days in airports and frantically looking for alternate flights, he finally made it – but only for a 24 hour visit! A whirlwind of meeting family members and a long night of waiting for his lost baggage later, we were on our way back to Myrtle Beach – the ring still in his pocket! He decided to propose at the start of the New Year, but he did not want to do it in a way that I would expect. So, after the New Year’s Eve party, when we had arrived back at home all spiffed up, he caught me off guard putting things away in my room. He put his arms around me, told me how much he treasured me, and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! We were engaged for 7 months.

Out of the entire day, what was the most memorable moment?
There are so many! But I’d have to say the highlight was when I turned down the aisle to the lyrics, “You make beautiful things out of the dust, you make beautiful things out of us,” by Michael Gungor Band. Stephen’s eyes immediately started welling up with tears, and I just savored every step down that aisle. Our whole ceremony was really personal. We didn’t share it with anyone but our pastor until the day of.

What’s your favorite picture from your wedding? (Please attach to this email.)
We have so many favorites, thanks to our amazing photographer and DJ who made the night incredible! But one of our favorites is of us holding a picture frame around our cake with the picture perfect cake topper. Our baker made a delicious and beautiful cake worthy of framing, and our photographer put a beautiful color effect on the picture that actually makes it look like we’re holding a piece of art! Another favorite was a picture of us kissing with our entire bridal party sprinting past us toward the camera. It came out amazing, and captures the hilarious nature of our wedding party!

How did you choose your venue? What elements drew you to venue?
We were drawn to The Members Club at the Grande Dunes for so many reasons! Stephen loves the ornate chandeliers and formal feel, and I adored the covered veranda, the rich golden colors, and the natural light provided by so many windows. We also love all patterns and things Italian, so the fact that it’s in a neighborhood called Tuscany was a huge plus!

Your wedding was filled with gorgeous details.  Did any have special meaning? What was your favorite?
Red and blue are both of our favorite colors, and we both like to be a little unconventional, so the bold color combo suited us well. It also lent to the beautiful crystal ladybug I had on the stem of my bouquet, which was a little touch my mom added. She always called me ladybug growing up. Our theme of “picture perfect” was fitting, because I am always taking too many pictures for his liking. Two of our favorite details were the funny snapshots of us holding the table numbers, and the large picture frame that mirrored our cake topper. The cake topper was the whole inspiration for the theme. It was all very traditional with a little quirky edge!

Tell us a little bit about your menu.  Did you add any Lowcountry elements?
We loved our menu! We had lots of different elements, including prime rib, broccoli alfredo, and chicken marsala. It was all delicious, and since we served our meal family style, everyone got to try a bit of everything!

Inspiration Board: For Like Ever

Good morning to my Lowcountry ladies!  I've always loved the 'For Like Ever' poster (and what's not to like about it?), especially in these fun colors.  It's bright and cheery and would be so fitting for a jazzy Charleston affair.   It's the perfect palette for a lively, summer wedding...
