Lowcountry Weddings

Sullivans Island Wedding {Brigid + Drew}

If you're considering an intimate setting for your Charleston wedding, you'll love Brigid + Drew's Lowcountry affair from Charleston wedding vendor, Reese Moore Photography.  Thanks to Reese for giving us all the details... "Stunning bride Brigid and husband-to-be Drew wanted a small, intimate, elegant fete for their wedding, so the two found a beautiful private home with an epic view of Sullivan's Island for their big day. They welcomed guests with eco-friendly, signature glasses from Mr. B's Sustainable Glassworks, and the couple wed on the porch overlooking the sweeping views of the beach. Brigid cried tears of joy throughout the ceremony... as did every other person there. Literally not a dry eye in the place! Then, after some photos on the beach, it was time for an elegant 3 course dinner on a long table decked with burlap, mason jars, candles, tulips, and low green and white center pieces. Brigid and Drew did their first dance on the deck and sunset, the perfect ending to a perfect day!"

Hiring a Wedding Planner {Ashley Nicole Events}

This week we've shared some serious inspiration from some of our favorite Charleston wedding vendors for your big Lowcountry Wedding!  We had Magnus + Rachel's Charleston wedding engagement at Marion Square, Meghann + Jordan's stunning wedding at The Sanctuary and Christine + Garrett's College of Charleston e-session!  To wrap up this week we're welcoming Charleston wedding planner Ashley, of Ashley Nicole Events, to give us some much needed guidance on just why you need to hire a wedding planner.  She addresses many common questions and even shares a few personal experiences that will have you running to hire a planner!  So, ladies, let's welcome Ashley Nicole Events... charleston weddings, charleston wedding coordinators, ashley nicole events, richard bell photography

The Importance of a planner

Who will tell me when to walk down the aisle? Who will help decorate while I’m getting dressed? Who will make sure all of my gifts are gathered when the reception is over?

charleston wedding vendor, ashley nicole events, describes the benefits of hiring a charleston wedding planner

These are some of the questions I get all the time from brides, moms, dads, and friends of the family.  At the end of a reception I get these questions followed by “without you this would have never gotten done”.  A planner has many roles the day of the wedding and throughout the planning process.  From being the “go between” with the couple and vendors to being the DJ announcer because the “Friend” that you decided to use didn’t want to DJ anymore.  There is always something that is going to arise that a planner will assist with and make sure everything still runs smoothly.

charleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, ashley nicole events

Here are a few stories and how I remedied the situation:

Just recently, while handling a “day of’ wedding, there was a cake crisis.  The room was a little on the stuffy side and not to mention about 200 bodies were in this room.  The 4 tiered cake had begun to slip, thus cracking the entire bottom layer.  With the help of the catering manager and my assistant we moved that baby out from the center of the room as fast as we could.  The top three layers had to be taken off, then placed back on the cake stand, and the bottom layer re-iced to make it look presentable.  The bride and groom had no idea this was even happening until a few days after the wedding.  I received a phone call from the bride thanking me for saving her cake!

charleston wedding vendors

I received a phone call from a couple that was getting ready to wed that very weekend.  They needed help with the ceremony coordination and a few other things.  Normally I don’t just do ceremony coordination, but I certainly didn’t want to leave them high and dry to do it on their own.  So I agreed.  We went for our final walk though and the bride asked the venue manager about placement of the candles.  He told her they did not handle those things and recommended hiring a planner for the “little things that are always forgotten”.  Enter planner.  This poor bride just needed help with a placement of a few items, so I agreed to help.  I wanted to make sure her day was just the way she envisioned it in her mind.  And so it was.

charleston weddings

These are just some of the stories from my personal experience and trust me there are many, many more.  Having a friend designated to handle certain things throughout your wedding day is not the best plan for any couple getting married.  Often times that friend may get tired or bored doing what you have asked them to do and completely quit on you.  Then what?  What if your limo is a half hour late?  Who will handle getting another limo or even a refund while you are on your honeymoon?

lowcountry weddings, groom wearing a kilt

Here are a few questions and answers that I hope will clear up the misconception of having a planner vs. someone else.

I can’t afford a planner; it’s just not in the budget!

Everyone is budget savvy these days and quite frankly I can see why.  To put on a wedding is very expensive.  That is why hiring a planner is a key element.  A true planner (and I’ll get to that below) has relationships with many wedding professionals in the area.  They will help negotiate with your dj, catering company, photographer, etc to stay within your budget.  But you say, I still can’t afford one.  Well think about it this way.  If a planner costs $2500, and she has helped save you $700 from the photographer’s package, $400 from the rental company, $800 off the venue, and $600 off the dj service, then you have just paid for your planner!! Plus I’m sure there will be more savings throughout the remainder of the planning process.

Why can’t the catering manager/venue manager handle it?

He or she already has plenty on his/her plate.  From making sure the cocktail hour food is out and ready for those hungry guests, to making sure the servers are clearing tables and replenishing the food as needed.  A venue manager is there to make sure the music isn’t too loud and the staff is doing as told.  They don’t want to have to worry about 105 candles being lit before the guests arrive or making sure all other vendors are there at the time they are supposed to be.  A planner will do all of those things for you.  Check in vendors and make sure they are on time and have everything they need and were supposed to bring.  FYI – a lot of catering and venue managers say they help out with all of this stuff, but remember, they will make sure all of their duties are completed before getting to your list of to do’s.

True Planners vs. hobby planners

I mentioned it briefly above, but having a true planner that plans weddings on an everyday basis is key.  Anyone can call themselves a planner, but someone that is a professional will have special connections with well known wedding vendors.  Plus, planners are familiar with venues and their special requirements. A person who does it for a hobby might not know the particular requirements and might be the cause of you not receiving your deposit back or even worse.  Stick with a professional!

hilton head weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, hilton head wedding blogs, ashley nicole events

I have a plenty of blogs bookmarked and my Pinterest board is overflowing with great ideas, I can handle this myself.

Who doesn’t love Pinterest?  I certainly do.  It is full of amazing ideas from previous weddings and styled photo shoots.  But wouldn’t it be nice to get fresh new ideas from someone who knows whether or not that centerpiece will go with the theme or ideas you have chosen?  A planner not only is there the day of, but we are available throughout the whole planning process.  We want to make your vision come to life.  You see something in your mind and want it a certain way, we will make that happen.  Planners also bring fresh new ideas to the table.  New color schemes that you would never have thought to put together.  Layout processes, centerpieces, rentals, how big of a tent do I need, I need my dress steamed, so on and so forth.  These are all things a planner will do to make sure everything runs smoothly.  This is a season in your life that you should enjoy and a wedding planner will help take the stress out of planning

myrtle beach weddings, myrtle beach wedding vendors, myrlte beach wedding blogs, ashley nicole events

So all in all, it is a great idea to have a planner.  Be it a full wedding planner/designer, or a day of coordinator.  It will make things much easier on you, your family, all the wedding vendors involved, and help you enjoy this special time in your life!  It is well worth the ease of mind to have someone taking care of all those little things you forgot or to help sort through all those pins you have been working on over the past year.

Lowcountry Wedding Details

I hope everyone had a fabulous, Fall weekend!  We're kicking off this week with a round-up of some of our current obsessions.  With the help of our trusty friend Pinterest, we ran across a handful of these details that would be the perfect addition to your Lowcountry wedding day :) southern wedding details we love that are perfect for every charleston wedding, hilton head wedding, myrtle beach

For whatever reason, trying to find something to hold your wedding cards that doesn’t look completely lame or cheesy tends to be a difficult task.  This simple, yet classic, mailbox does the trick for any Charleston wedding.  Surrounded with hydrangeas and candlelit, it’s the perfect addition to your outdoor, Plantation wedding under the Lowcountry stars!

charleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, thank you note for guests

This is something I wish I would have done at our reception.  It was one of the many things that gets tossed to the side when you are frantically trying to tie up loose ends the weeks before you wedding.  It’s a touching note to all of your guests expressing how much you appreciate the time and money they spent to be present at your big day.  Let’s face it, most weddings in the Lowcountry are destination weddings which means your guest will be traveling tens of hundreds of miles to make it to Charleston, Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach, so it’s only appropriate to properly, and genuinely, tell them just how much it means to you.

Wedding day is crazy.  It doesn’t matter how laid back you are in your normal life, the day-of, things are always like a blur, which is why I think breaking it up with an adorable text for your bridal party to your groom would be an unexpected surprise.

hilton head weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, hilton head wedding blogs, wedding handkerchief for father of the bride

I’m almost glad I didn’t give my dad something like this.  There were enough tears as it was!  But I think this little handkerchief would be an oh-so touching and meaningful memento.

myrtle beach weddings, myrtle beach wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding blogs, wedding guestbook

I just think this could be hilarious.  This little gem could substitute as your guest book and it gives your guests a chance to share their thoughts about you and your husband.  There is no telling the sweet (or crazy) stories some of them may remember.

...and finally, how adorable is this embroidered tie?  Not only is it a sweet touch, but it makes the perfect keepsake for your Lowcountry wedding day!

Savannah Wedding {Sarah + Patric}

Like many other Georgia Bulldogs, today I’m in the process of recovering from the serious stomping the Gamecocks gave us yesterday.  While Saturday may have not gone the way I had hoped for, it sure did for the Florida Gators.  In honor of their huge win over LSU, we’re sharing Gator Fans, Sarah + Patric's Lowcountry wedding, who I’m sure are still basking in the glory of yesterday’s big victory!  How do I know they’re Florida fans you ask?  Well, the whole bridal party is tebow-ing, so one can only assume!  The duo tied the knot at The Inn at Ellis Square in beautiful Savannah, Georgia where Stay Forever Photography was on hand to capture the entire celebration! charleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogssavannah weddings, savannah wedding vendors, inn at ellis squarehilton head weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, hilton head wedding blogsmyrtle beach weddings, myrtle beach wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding blogcharleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, stay forever photographylowcountry weddings, lowcountry wedding vendors, lowcountry wedding blogscharleston wedding blogs, groomsmen pictures in savannah, georgia, stay forever photography

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of a good Southern bridal portrait shoot,   Add a picturesque, Pawleys Island backdrop, a beautiful, blushing bride and Priscilla Thomas Photography behind the lens and you've got a little slice of Lowcountry wedding heaven!  Dressed in a strapless, lace gown, Southern bride Meg looked stunning on this perfect Spring day.

Southern Weddings {Haymarket Designs}

I recently ran across Haymarket Designs on Pinterest and instantly fell madly, deeply in love!  With their preppy style and fresh modern edge, Haymarket Designs can provide that extra touch of Southern flair to any of your Lowcountry wedding events.  They've got an adorable variety of koozies that would be a perfect addition for a couple's shower or a lively bachelorette weekend at the beach.  Better yet, having a hard time picking out bridesmaids gifts?  I know some of my gals would have gone bananas over those precious wine totes...just sayin!  My favorite part, you can customize every item by selecting the design, color and font of your choice. P.S.  I know it's Wednesday morning, but tell me this doesn't make you want a Corona?!

Charleston Wedding {Cameron + Janie}

We’re wrapping up this week with a classic Charleston wedding from Carmen Ash Photography, and if I had to guess, you’ll be daydreaming about these Lowcountry details for the rest of the weekend!    Janie + Cameron met while their dads were coaches for the Chicago Bears.  As the couple’s friendship grew, so did their football family!  Janie’s brother coaches for the Carolina Panthers, Cameron’s dad coached for the Colts, his brother coaches for Standford and his uncle is Norv Turner, the head coach for the San Diego Chargers (hence they didn’t get married during football season!)  Personally, I can’t get over Bride Janie’s beautiful strapless, lace gown, birdcage veil, flawless hair and the perfect pink lips!  She’s just glowing.  Her bridesmaids looked equally stunning in peacock blue dresses from J. Crew that were accessorized with gorgeous green and white bouquets from Branch Design Studio.  The guys looked handsome in tan suits with green ties…perfect for a summer wedding in Charleston.  Since the groom had previously worked at the Citadel, the couple tied the knot in front of a packed house on campus at the beautiful Summerall Chapel.  After, they snapped some seriously frame-able shots on the parade deck and in the barracks (must-haves if you get married at the Citadel!).  The couple and their guests headed to Magnolia Plantation and Gardens for one heck of a celebration from a group of fabulous Charleston wedding vendors!  Guests dined on Lowcountry cuisine from Granville’s Catering, Branch Design Studio set the mood with dreamy florals, d’lish served up a jaw-dropping cake and Archer Music Services kept the crowd dancing all evening long, but the BIG hit of the night was the cigar bar! Even grandma loved it!

Gown Shopping Tips - Be a Prepared Bride

Alright gals, we've invited the pros to join us today on a fun little topic that we've all dreamed about since we were little girls....wedding dress shopping!  The ladies of Gown Boutique of Charleston, one of the top wedding gown boutiques in the South, are giving us some helpful tips to on how to Be A Prepared Bride before venturing out into the land of fitting rooms and wedding dresses!

If you are anything like me, the whole idea of dress shopping was ridiculously exciting and nerve-racking all at the same time.  We've all watched 'Say Yes to the Dress' and have witnessed the mistakes some brides have made while shopping for their dream gown but I thought it might be helpful to have an expertise join us to give us the real scoop on how to prepare for shopping for your gown.

Gown Shopping Tips – Be a Prepared Bride

How will you feel when you face the racks full of gowns?  Will you dive right in?  Will you not know where to start?  Whether you have dreamed of this day for years, or never given a single thought to what your wedding gown might look like, all brides have a few anxieties about shopping for a wedding gown.

Some brides are fixated on their body image, some are concerned about staying in budget, and some worry that they simply won’t find one they like.  As a bridal consultant, I cannot make all those anxieties go away, but I can tell you on how to best prepare for your shopping appointment.  A little preparation will help ensure you have fond memories of shopping for your wedding gown.

charleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding dresses, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, lowcountry weddings, myrtle beach weddings

#1 – Try to bring just 2-3 people with you.  Stepping onto that pedestal can be your moment to shine…or your moment to get picked apart by critical Aunt Betty.  It is very tempting to bring along a crowd of people to watch you model gowns.  Some brides love the spectacle of it all, while other brides just simply can’t say “no”.  However, too many people voicing their opinions can make it overwhelming for the bride.  You want feedback, constructive criticism and positive reinforcement are good, but you also want to be able to hear yourself think.  Making your dress shopping experience a positive one starts with who you bring with you.  Please think carefully on who will sit with you that day and help you wade through the racks of gowns.

charleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding dresses, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, lowcountry weddings, myrtle beach weddings

#2 – Think about your budget.  Before you step foot in that first bridal shop, you should give some thought to the amount of money you are willing to spend on a gown.  Shopping for your wedding gown is such an emotional purchase, and you could feel pulled in different directions if you don’t decide on the gown budget before you shop.  Some brides have an ideal number in their head.  Other brides feel they have wiggle room, and they are willing to cut corners elsewhere in the budget to afford the perfect gown.  Either way, please don’t put yourself in the position of falling in love with a $4500 gown when you never intended on spending more than $2000.  You are just setting yourself up for heartache.   We believe you can find a gown you will love at any price.

charleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding dresses, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, lowcountry weddings, myrtle beach weddings

#3 – Know your timeframe.  One of the first questions the bridal consultant will likely ask you is, “What is your wedding date?”  Wedding gowns are typically special ordered in the size and color you select, the gown is  not made until your order comes into the designer, and it can take anywhere from 4-6 months to be completed.  Then you will need time to have your gown tailored once it arrives.  Many brides are surprised that the standard recommendation is to order your gown 1 year – 9 months before your wedding date.  This is to ensure that your gown will arrive in time to have the necessary alterations completed before your wedding date.  If you are one of the many brides that decide to have a bridal portrait done before your wedding date, this means your gown actually needs to have alterations completed by that portrait date, not the actual wedding date.  Don’t have 9 months?  Don’t worry!  Many gowns can be ordered in shorter time frames, however there may be additional rush shipment charges added to ensure the gown will ship on time. Also, you can find some gowns available to purchase off-the-rack, which is perfect for really short engagements!

#4 – Do a little research.  You are not expected to bring in a massive notebook full of magazine pages or a 10 page Pinterest board print-out.  In fact, it is possible to have too many ideas.  However, it is good to know if you are drawn to photos of ballgowns with beaded accents or romantic Grecian style gowns.  This gives us a jumping off point.  If you love how a gown looks in a photo, and you love it even more once you put it on, that is wonderful!  However, if you think you found the perfect look, but feel underwhelmed once you put it on, then we go in a new direction.  Many brides end up in a gown they never thought they would wear.  It is hard to tell how you will feel about a gown until you put it on, but as long as you listen to your gut feeling, you will be happy…and beautiful!

I hope that by thinking about these tips, your worries about gown shopping will be eased just a bit.  Know that you are not alone in feeling nervous, and whether you try on 2 gowns or 20 gowns, your perfect gown is out there!

Happy shopping!

Pepper Plantation Wedding {Brittany + Tim }

You're going to die over this charming, Lowcountry wedding at the Pavilion at Pepper Plantation.  Designed by Winship Productions, every ounce of Brittany + Tim's Charleston wedding is so stinkin' cute I can barely stand it!  The bridesmaids were dressed in icy, blue LulaKate dresses matched with vibrant, pink peony bouquets from Branch Design Studio (that will make you melt!), while the men sported classic tan suits.  I have to say this might be one of my favorite bridal parties ever.  Not only do I love everything about their attire, but they were clearly ready to have a good time.  The group shots Reese Moore Photography captured after the ceremony are just priceless.  At the reception, Brittany kicked up her cowboy boots as guests dined on delicious Lowcountry cuisine before enjoying tasty treats from the surprise ice cream truck!   At the end of the evening, the newlyweds jumped in their antique car and jetted away!

Charleston Wedding {Sarah + Will}

When both the bride and groom hail from the Holy City, you know you're in for quite the treat and Sarah + Will's Charleston wedding is just that!  For starters, they enlisted the talented crew of Richard Bell Photography to capture their Lowcountry affair and their list of fabulous Charleston wedding vendors didn't stop there!  Their touching ceremony took place at First Baptisit Church in Downtown Charleston before heading over the bridge to celebrate at Mt. Pleasant's Alhambra Hall.  The reception was decked out in a classic blue, white and green color palette and accented with touches of sweet grass!  Guests were treated to some mouthwatering Lowcountry cuisine that included shrimp and grits and pecan pralines! charleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding vendors, southern weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding vendors, southern weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding vendors, southern weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding vendors, southern weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding vendors, southern weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding vendors, southern weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding vendors, southern weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding vendors, southern weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding vendors, southern weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding vendors, southern weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding vendors, southern weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding vendors, southern weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding vendors, southern weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding vendors, southern weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding vendors, southern weddings, lowcountry weddingscharleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, hilton head wedding vendors, myrtle beach wedding vendors, southern weddings, lowcountry weddings

Day-of Wedding Coordination {Pure Luxe Bride}

So, I know your thought process.  You're fresh off your engagement and you dive head first into wedding planning as you slowly, but surely, start knocking things off your To-Do list.  You think to yourself, 'I've got this in the bag.  Who needs a wedding coordinator?'  Um, YOU do!  Just ask Francesca of Pure Luxe Bride.  Francesca and her husband, Justin, offer day-of  and full-service coordination to Lowcountry Brides and have joined us today to tell us what you REALLY get with a day-of coordinator and why you just can't go with out one...

What is a DOC and why do you need one?

The DJ has been booked, deposits made, and dress chosen. If you’re a bride (or groom) undoubtedly you’ve put forth much blood, sweat, and tears in the planning department. But there may be something you have not thought of. How are you going to ensure you’re able to enjoy every last minute and detail of your wedding day?

That’s where we come in. As a husband + wife planning team, we’re blogging to give you a glimpse of the benefits of hiring a day of coordinator (DOC). Because once all of the plans are made and the big day arrives, the bride should be carrying around a bouquet of beautiful flowers and not a clipboard.

Obviously it’s easy (and yes, self-serving) for me to defend hiring help for your wedding day. More often than not, a coordinator can be seen as an extravagant and unnecessary expense, something that only brides with platinum budgets can afford. I’m here to tell you, this isn’t the case. No matter the overall budget or size or venue, a DOC is someone who caters exclusively to the bride and groom, acts as the point person for the day, creates and oversees the timeline, performs crowd control, and is immediately on hand to put out any fires quietly without anyone the wiser. There are however, some DOC companies out there that have no previous experience in events (just their own wedding), aren't licensed or insured (these are biggies to be sure to ask when interviewing around!).

Instead of worrying if the florist remembered to deliver the toss petals or if the mother of the bride has enough tissues in hand, a DOC covers these little details and so much more. More importantly, a DOC relieves the pressure off friends and family from feeling like they’re working your wedding instead of celebrating. You and your loved ones can kick back and rest assured that any possible mishap, snafu, and hiccup will be taken care of (e.g. the groomsmen are late, the flower girl is bordering on the verge of an epic tantrum, or you’ve run out of champagne). Aunt Susie may be great at details, but she should be out on the dance floor doing “The Twist” and not running around loading up the decor and card box. It may be hard to do, but allowing parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents to sit around responsibility-free is a gift!

charleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, lowcountry weddings

More importantly, having someone at your side who has done this countless times before allows nothing to fall through the cracks. All of those little things that you never would have thought of? Well, we’ve seen them time and time again, so we know exactly what to look for.

charleston weddings, charleston wedding vendors, charleston wedding blogs, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings, lowcountry weddings

But let me clue you in on another myth about DOCs. There is actually no such thing as a “day of” anything. Any reputable coordinator will tell you that she starts coordinating the final details of your wedding at least a month out. There are vendors to contact, coordination of deliveries, set-up, break down, and going over every little detail with a fine toothed comb to ensure nothing has been overlooked (and believe me when I say it happens…quite frequently!). Scheduling all the “major players,” letting everyone know where to be and at what time, and gathering contact names, cell numbers, and emergency backup contacts can’t be gathered on the “day of.” It all takes time and logistical know-how.

And what if your venue already has an event coordinator? Though valuable to the reception site, the venue’s coordinator will not be smoothing your train as you head down the aisle, will not cue toasts and special dances, and will not make sure grandpa knows to get in a picture. A venue coordinator’s job is to make sure their building and staff are under control, though they work great in combination with your DOC.

We are equipped with all the information so all the questions on the wedding day go to us instead of distracting the wedding’s VIPs. Not only does a coordinator help the bride and groom by taking care of all the little details for them, a DOC is there to help all other wedding professionals, first by providing them with a wedding day itinerary and then by being the person to make sure the events run on time, pointing out details that are important to the couple (especially to the photographer) and answering any questions on the fly.

Knowing that we DOCs can make someone’s wedding day stress-free and relaxed is an immensely rewarding experience. There’s nothing better than witnessing a first look, seeing the face of the groom as the bride walks toward him, and taking in the proud, happy smiles of the guests spinning on the dance floor. And while our work is often long and grueling, I firmly believe the majority of us cannot think of anything else we’d rather be doing.
