Jenny + Jonathan {Nashville Wedding}

Jenny + Jonathan tied the knot this past summer at one of Nashville's most sought after wedding venues, the beautiful Cheekwood Botanical Gardens.  They enlisted the talents of Evin Photography  to capture the couple's wedding day and as usual, she did a great job.  Jenny looked stunning in her strapless gown that she paired with a pewter sash and a birdcage veil while her groom looked dapper in his tux.  What really caught my eye about this wedding is the way Jenny + Jonathan look at each other...you can just see the love.  Jenny was kind enough to provide us with a a little added insight into their special day...
Tell us a little bit about how you met your husband.  How long have you known each other? Where did you meet?
My husband and I both grew up in Tennessee, had common friendships, and were involved in summer camps and church youth groups together.  However, we did not actually interact or become friends during that time.  It was not until over a decade later that we got reacquainted, deciding to have a friendly dinner to catch up on old times which lasted long into the night.  We talked and laughed nearly every waking hour for that weekend that I was in town visiting my family, and by the 3rd day (Labor Day), I knew I had met my future husband.  And I was not the only one who felt that way…He began looking for an engagement ring by the end of that week.  2 months later we were engaged, and 7 months after that, we married!

How did he propose?  How long were you engaged for?
The proposal was incredible.  Because I had not been able to spend very much time with my family due to my college studies out of state, Jonathan incorporated my family and all of my favorite things of TN into one amazing day.  He flew me into Nashville, had my mother and sister greet me in a limousine which took the three of us to the spa for massages, manicures, and pedicures, and had our lunches paid for at my favorite Italian restaurant.  It is noteworthy that at each location there were roses and romantic hand-written notes waiting for me.  In each of those notes, which I will cherish forever, he told me of his initial affection for me, his growing devotion, and expectations of a happy life together.  He then had the limousine take me to meet my father at our favorite dessert place for coffee and cake (our father-daughter time when I was growing up) and on to Cheekwood Botanical Gardens, the location of Jonathan and I’s first date.  There he greeted me with an armful of roses and led me to a beautiful location overlooking a pond where a violinist came out from behind the trees to play what would become the song to which I walked down the aisle.  On one knee, crying, he proposed and I happily accepted.  Jonathan, being the romantic that he is, wanted to marry almost immediately, on my next school holiday break (only a month away), but I persuaded him to wait until all my courses were finished and I could move back to TN.  He agreed and the wedding planning began.

How did you choose your venue? What elements drew you to it?
                Cheekwood was an obvious choice for us, as it was the site of our first true date as well as the location of the proposal.  Additionally, we both love the scenery there and felt it was just what we always envisioned for our weddings. He wanted something with beautiful scenery and deep-rooted history in the area, while I wanted something that is as natural and untouched as possible for an outdoor ceremony.

Your wedding was filled with gorgeous details.  Did any have special meaning? What was your favorite?
                We did not incorporate a theme, per se, into our wedding. However, parts of our personal histories and loves were to be seen everywhere.  We both love music, and Jonathan seems to be able to play any instrument he touches, so we picked our music carefully and had musical notes on the invitations, programs, etc. We also have the same initials (my maiden name is Morris), so our cake and the dance floor were monogrammed with JM.  And finally, we both love (a little too much I would say) good coffee, so we had a special coffee bar set up for our guests.  Small details that together help describe us as a couple.

What’s your favorite picture from your wedding?
I love the picture of us standing under an arbor in our ceremony clothes.  Jonathan is so handsome and I am so happy. However, I also love the silly one of us making faces at each other, because that displays our playful nature so well. What we do most together is laugh.

Tell us a little bit about your menu.

                Within each of our families are diverse tastes, some persons who are a bit more adventurous with food and others who do not venture out from the familiar.  We did our best to cater to each type of person, offering an herbed beef tenderloin with roast asparagus and a fruit and feta salad, as well as battered chicken breasts with mashed potatoes and cornbread.  I felt that the two choices would be comfortable enough for any guest, while allowing something a bit more gourmet for those who were interested.  As a side note, there is nothing I love more than lamb, so initially that was on the menu.  However, one of my guests expressed fear in having to eat “sheep,” so it was quickly removed from the menu and replaced with the chicken.  That still makes me smile.

Out of the entire day, what was the most memorable moment?
I had many amazing moments with my husband on that day, but much of our time together seemed to go by so quickly that much of it is a blur in my mind.  (Thank goodness for the photos and videos!) But I would have to sat the most memorable moment is when I was waiting alone in my dressing room to be met by my father.  My bridesmaids had already left to line up to walk down the aisle and it was nearly my turn to get into position as well.  My father came in and told me, with tears streaming down his cheeks and a shaky voice, that the song playing later that evening for our father-daughter dance was one he had picked out when I was only 5 years old.  He said it was his commitment to me to be the best father he could be, to always take care of and protect me, and to hand me off one day to a man he deemed worthy.  He believed Jonathan to be that very man.  And I will say, in all honesty, that my father was exactly that kind of father.  The song is “If I Could” by Ray Charles. I began crying as we danced on the third verse. Here are the lyrics:
If I could - I'd protect you from the sadness in your eyes. Give you courage in a world of compromise. Yes, I would...

If I could - I would teach you all the things I never learned. And I'd help you cross the bridges that I burned. Yes, I would...

If I could - I would try to shield your innocence from time. But, the part of life I gave you isn't mine.  I watched you grow - So I could let you go...

If I could - I would help you make it through the hungry years. But, I know that I could never dry your tears. But, I would - If I could...

Yes, if I live - in a time and place where you don't want to be, you don't have to walk along this road with me. My yesterday - won't have to be your way...

If I knew - I would try to change the world I brought you to. And there isn't very much that I could do. But, I would - if I could...

Oh, baby, Daddy wants to protect you. And help my baby through the hungry years. 'Cause you're a part of me. And if you ever, ever need, I said a shoulder to cry on, Or just someone to talk to, I'll be there. I'll be there. I didn't change the world. But, I would - If I could...

Looking back on your engagement and wedding, is there any advice
you would give to brides in the planning process?
I suppose as far as advice goes, I may not have much to offer that others haven’t already readily given.  I will say that the best choice I made was to remain relaxed and not have anxiety over the details.  Little things may go wrong, but they create the best memories. Your marriage will not have perfection, so your wedding doesn’t need it either.  It just needs to express who you are as a couple.  I let my bridesmaids wear the dress of their choosing (within our color scheme) and the groom/groomsmen wear flip-flops.  That is what they wanted to do, so it made the wedding exactly what it was supposed to be.  The only other advice I would give is do not settle for prices quoted to you.  Our wedding was beautiful, amazing, but cost less than we were quoted from every vendor because I did not accept their initial price offers.  The mark-up is huge for events such as these.  Do not be the bride that becomes a doormat and accepts what she is told at face-value.  Be savvy and strong.  I was and do not have any regrets (and saved hundreds of dollars).

Megan + Andrew {Charleston Engagement}

In case you hadn't heard, just last month Charleston took home the Conde Nast Reader's Choice Award as "The Top City in the United States."  Not bad, eh?  Thanks to the relaxing salt water breeze, cuisine worthy of breaking out your 'fat pants', the genteel locals and a culture rich in Southern history and values, it's no wonder brides flock to the Holy City to say their 'I do's.'  I mean, could you ask for a better wedding backdrop?  Well, historic downtown Charleston makes for a pretty perfect engagement session, too.  Just ask today's Lowcountry couple, Megan + Andrew.  They spent a summer afternoon with Charleston photographer Monica Day as they explored quaint alleys, charming cobblestone roads and the beautiful Waterfront Park.   It's everything I love about Charleston...

Beth + Vinnie {Washington, DC Engagement}

Hope everyone had a good weekend!  My husband and I are headed to Washington, DC on Friday.  It will be my first visit to the area so I've been spending a whole lot of time researching tourist attractions, restaurants and local watering holes (suggestions are welcome!) to make sure we can squeeze as much as possible into our quick 3-day weekend.  Since DC's been on my mind way too much recently, I figured what better way to kick off the week then with Vinne + Beth's flawless National Arboretum engagement session from Petruzzo Photography.  This couple is gorgeous, the location is perfection and the photography is absolutely breathtaking.

James + Nicole {Myrtle Beach Wedding}

Happy Friday!  Today we're sharing James + Nicole's sunny Myrtle Beach wedding from destination photographer Christi Falls.  With a few hiccups in the hours leading up to the wedding (Nicole's dress was soaked when the sprinklers went off in her room!), the couple lucked out with amazing wedding day weather and even more importantly, a dry dress.  Their heartfelt oceanside ceremony perfectly represented the laidback couple.  They continued the party with their closest family and friends at the beautiful Hilton Myrtle Beach where guests enjoyed a good time and a serious candy bar!

Diana + Stephen {Grande Dunes Wedding}

Gillian Reinhardt of Carolina Studios has a way with the camera.  She always does an amazing job of capturing the emotions that come with a wedding.  I'm not sure if it's luck or what, but she tends to work with the most adorable couples...and Diana + Stephen are no different!  This fun loving couple let their personalities shine through in their vibrant summer wedding.  With a lively red and blue color palette, they said 'I do' this past July at the fabulous Grande Dunes Member Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Tell us a little bit about how you met your husband.  How long have you known each other? Where did you meet?
Stephen and I met in back in 2008 when I moved here and started singing in the worship band at Carolina Forest Community Church. Stephen has an amazing talent on the drums, and we grew to be really close as we grew in our faith and friendship over the next 2 years or so leading up to the beginning of our relationship.

Why did you choose to have A Lowcountry Wedding?
I love it here, and all my friends and my church family are here. Stephen is one of the few proud natives of Myrtle Beach, with much of his family living nearby, so it seemed like a no-brainer for us!

How did he propose?  How long were you engaged for?
Poor Stephen’s plans to propose were foiled several times! He was supposed to come up to visit me on my Christmas visit to my parents’ house in New York. Of course, the day he was supposed to fly up, a huge snow storm hit, and he got stuck in Myrtle Beach. After a couple of days in airports and frantically looking for alternate flights, he finally made it – but only for a 24 hour visit! A whirlwind of meeting family members and a long night of waiting for his lost baggage later, we were on our way back to Myrtle Beach – the ring still in his pocket! He decided to propose at the start of the New Year, but he did not want to do it in a way that I would expect. So, after the New Year’s Eve party, when we had arrived back at home all spiffed up, he caught me off guard putting things away in my room. He put his arms around me, told me how much he treasured me, and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! We were engaged for 7 months.

Out of the entire day, what was the most memorable moment?
There are so many! But I’d have to say the highlight was when I turned down the aisle to the lyrics, “You make beautiful things out of the dust, you make beautiful things out of us,” by Michael Gungor Band. Stephen’s eyes immediately started welling up with tears, and I just savored every step down that aisle. Our whole ceremony was really personal. We didn’t share it with anyone but our pastor until the day of.

What’s your favorite picture from your wedding? (Please attach to this email.)
We have so many favorites, thanks to our amazing photographer and DJ who made the night incredible! But one of our favorites is of us holding a picture frame around our cake with the picture perfect cake topper. Our baker made a delicious and beautiful cake worthy of framing, and our photographer put a beautiful color effect on the picture that actually makes it look like we’re holding a piece of art! Another favorite was a picture of us kissing with our entire bridal party sprinting past us toward the camera. It came out amazing, and captures the hilarious nature of our wedding party!

How did you choose your venue? What elements drew you to venue?
We were drawn to The Members Club at the Grande Dunes for so many reasons! Stephen loves the ornate chandeliers and formal feel, and I adored the covered veranda, the rich golden colors, and the natural light provided by so many windows. We also love all patterns and things Italian, so the fact that it’s in a neighborhood called Tuscany was a huge plus!

Your wedding was filled with gorgeous details.  Did any have special meaning? What was your favorite?
Red and blue are both of our favorite colors, and we both like to be a little unconventional, so the bold color combo suited us well. It also lent to the beautiful crystal ladybug I had on the stem of my bouquet, which was a little touch my mom added. She always called me ladybug growing up. Our theme of “picture perfect” was fitting, because I am always taking too many pictures for his liking. Two of our favorite details were the funny snapshots of us holding the table numbers, and the large picture frame that mirrored our cake topper. The cake topper was the whole inspiration for the theme. It was all very traditional with a little quirky edge!

We loved our menu! We had lots of different elements, including prime rib, broccoli alfredo, and chicken marsala. It was all delicious, and since we served our meal family style, everyone got to try a bit of everything!

Looking back on your engagement and wedding, is there any advice you would give to brides in the planning process?
Be organized from the beginning so you don’t get stressed out! There are so many beautiful choices for venues, fashion, and vendors here. Just be true to your and your husband’s heart of hearts, and remember to be excited for not just the wedding but the rest of the life that comes afterward!

Jennifer + Matthew {Beaufort Wedding}

Jennifer + Matthew were married last Fall deep in the heart of the Lowcountry.  The couple were wed at the historic Stoney Creek Presbyterian Chapel in McPhersonville, South Carolina where talented photographer Kellie McCann was on hand to capture their day.  This  antebellum chapel dates back to 1833 and was the perfect choice for their intimate, laid back wedding.  After the ceremony, they moved the celebration to a private home in Beaufort where guests were treated to the best of the Lowcountry.  They enjoyed a casual, relaxing atmosphere with stunning views of the marsh and spectacular Lowcountry cuisine.

Jennifer + Chris {Honey Horn Plantation Wedding}

Honey Horn Plantation is located on Hilton Head Island and is one of the Lowcountry's treasured Wedding venues.  It has everything that today's couple, Jennifer + Chris, wanted in a reception venue: cozy live oaks, salt marshes, spanish moss and picturesque open fields. Amanda Joy Photography was on hand to capture this darling Southern affair complete with an oh-so sweet couple,  personalized details and some amazing lowcountry cuisine.
Thanks to Jennifer for filling us in on all the details.  I just love her responses...

Tell us a little bit about how you met your husband.  How long have you known each other? Where did you meet?
My husband and I met through our group of friends at the beginning of our sophomore year at the University of South Carolina. As our group of friends hung out more, our relationship grew and it was history from there. We first became best friends and the love grew from that which is why our relationship has such a solid foundation. We dated for 5 years before getting engaged

How did he propose?  How long were you engaged for?
While visiting my family in Bluffton SC for a long weekend, our day was full with lots of summer activities throughout the day, nothing out of the ordinary. I noticed that Chris seemed to be following my Dad around a little more than normal while they were cooking dinner on the grill, but thought he was just trying to get to know him more. Little did I know, he was asking to marry me.  After dinner and showers, we were ready to watch a family movie when Chris mentioned that he wanted to go to the gas station nearby to get a Gatorade to help his headache. Chris almost always gets a headache after being in the sun all day, and always wants a Gatorade when he has a headache, so this wasn’t out of the ordinary either. I was a little annoyed with him because I was ready to watch the movie, and the gas station wasn’t very close. After my mother (who also had no idea what was going on) tried to offer him a few medications, I agreed to go with him to the gas station, but being stubborn, I didn’t change out of my pjs and didn’t put on any shoes either. Once we got on the road, I was giving him all sorts of directions to the gas station, and he wasn’t following any of them. He was driving past all the turns. Finally, he asked me where the church was that my parents got married in. He said he wanted to drive by to see what it looked like at night, since it is on the water. I STILL didn’t get a clue; I was just getting more and more annoyed. Finally we got to the church and we hopped out of the car. He took my hand and walked me over to an oak tree and got down on one knee right under it. He asked me to marry him and I immediately covered my mouth in shock and started stepping backwards. Chris jokes now that he was a little scared when I did this because it looked like I was going to run away. I of course said YES and we quickly got back in the car. Remember, I wasn’t wearing any shoes and Chris found out quickly that he knelt down in an ant pile. Oh, the joys of the south. On the way home to celebrate with my awaiting parents and brothers, I still thought Chris had a headache and asked if he still needed a Gatorade. We were engaged for a little over one year.

How did you choose your venue? What elements drew you to Honey Horn?
We knew right away that we wanted to get married on Hilton Head, where I was born and raised. Chris’ family has a beach house in Beaufort SC, which is about an hour away. This is where Chris spent his summers growing up. So this place is special to the both of us. We knew we wanted our wedding to be somewhat laid back and a low country theme, so an outside reception was perfect. We chose Honey Horn Plantation because of the beautiful pavilion (in case of rain) that still gave the outside feel, but most importantly because of the beautiful oak trees and moss. Nothing is more beautiful to a southern girl and guy like us than a location with Oak Trees, moss, and the smell of the marsh nearby. We were sold!

Your wedding was filled with gorgeous details.  Did any have special meaning? What was your favorite?
This was the most important thing for Chris and I when planning our wedding. We wanted every single detail to be personalized or mean something special to us. Since we had a more laid back reception, we got to spend a lot of time creating small details that meant something to us. Where do I start?
For the actual ceremony, I had my great grandmother’s ring tied to my bouquet, which was wonderful knowing that it was there.
And the reception is where is gets good! Each table number corresponded with a short sentence or story about Chris and me. For example, Table 56: Chris and Jennifer were engaged for 56 weeks. The escort cards were clothes pinned onto an old window frame.
 My dad made different signs to use around the reception for parking, arrows for “reception”, “thank you” for the gift table, but my favorite (out of all the signs and everything at the reception) was “Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Hunt” that was put at our wedding party table in front of our seats.
 The pavilion had a beautiful fireplace with a huge mantle that we had fun decorating. We strung twine across the mantle and used clothespins to pin up black and white pictures of Chris and I. My dad also made a huge “H” to put up as the focal point. Some greenery and a few more framed pictures, including ones of our parents on their wedding days finished up the mantle.
For our cake, I had a clay figurine made of our two precious dogs with their names on it. We were sad they couldn’t be there with us, but the cake topper was a perfect addition.
We also created a fun area for guests to take pictures and videotape. My mom found a huge red couch on sale that we put out in the yard. We had a table nearby with a camera and video camera and a chalkboard so that guests could write notes to us. There were also stick mustaches, lips, and glasses to have a little fun with.
We used more chalkboards to label different things at the reception like the lemonade, sweet tea, specialty drinks, cookies, and pies.
Near the gift table we had a few vintage pieces of luggage stacked on top of one another with a picture of Chris and I on our first trip together as a couple, and a little note to tell the guests where we were headed for our honeymoon.
There were many many more details for our reception, and once again, everything was planned and meant something to us. We know that with all of these special details, nobody will ever come close to having the same details as us, and our wedding will always be unique to us.

Tell us a little bit about your menu.  Did you add any Lowcountry elements?
Our menu screamed southern for sure, and that is exactly what we wanted. For the cocktail hour, the guests were greeted with mini crab cakes, fried oysters, fruit skewers, and mini ham biscuits.
For dinner we enjoyed strawberry and feta cheese salad, Caribbean chicken, coconut shrimp,  grilled veggies, and macaroni and cheese. Everything was absolutely delicious! Honestly, we had a hard time deciding what we wanted for our menu because everything that Downtown Catering and Events had was delicious!

Out of the entire day, what was the most memorable moment?
Besides saying our vows (which was by far the best moment of the day, it felt like we were the only ones in the room), there were two other great moments that I could live over and over and they would never get old.
The first one would be seeing all of our friends and family at the reception together, having a good time. I’ve been to many weddings, but I have never seen two families mesh as well as our two families did. People that didn’t know each other until that day were dancing with one another. New siblings were dancing, long time family friends were dancing, and everyone was having a blast. You wouldn’t have been able to tell which family member or friend went with which family and for me that was the best thing. Family is the number one most important thing to Chris and I, so this was a very special moment for us for sure.
The second moment would have to be when we drove away. I know that doesn’t really sound too good, but at this moment, it was just the two of us for the first time all day, for the first time as a married couple. My little brother and his friends decorated our car and Chris drove us away, so there wasn’t even a driver to get in the way. Just us. As much as we were sad that the day was over, it was now real. On the way to the hotel, we realized how hungry we were, so we went through the Burger King drive through to bring food back to our room. We looked at each other and laughed because this was us. Nothing had changed, except I was now Mrs. Hunt and we were finally married.

Looking back on your engagement and wedding, is there any advice you would give to brides in the planning process?
I think I would say what everyone said, enjoy the whole thing, and DON’T RUSH through it. For me the planning for a whole year before the wedding made it so I wasn’t too stressed towards the end. Don’t get me wrong, I think every normal girl will get at least a little stressed. But, I feel like I had just enough time to plan.
The part that went by so fast for me was the actual day. I feel like I was rushing the morning by because I just wanted to see Chris and I couldn’t wait for the ceremony to start. I could have slowed down and taken in everything a little more.
The reception went by the fastest. I’m not sure where the time went. I wish I would have been able to speak to everyone there a little more than I did.
So yes, my advice would be slow down, look around, and enjoy every second of the day.

Stephanie + Matt {West Palm Beach Wedding}

Stephanie + Matt tied the knot this past Spring in sunny West Palm Beach, Florida.  The two opted for a traditional Catholic ceremony at St. Ann's Church were they said 'I do' in front of all their friends and fam.  Afterwards, they took to the beach where the ladies of Stay Forever Photography were able to grab some gorgeous sun kissed images of the happy couple and their bridal crew.  They joined their guests at the Palm Beach Sailing Club were they enjoyed a reception filled with an appetizing array of food (including BBQ and cake pops!), kickin' reggae, lots of dancing and a wonderful coastal breeze.

I was completely swept off my feet the first time I laid eyes on Kathryn's Charleston Bridal Session  and, to be honest, I've been dying to share this gem with you ever since.  Talented Lowcountry wedding photographer, Ricki Ford, spent the afternoon South of Broad with the effortless Southern Belle.  It just doesn't get any better than timeless photography, a natural Southern beauty and the elegance of Downtown Charleston.

Which one's your fav?

Bethany + Jay {Nashville Wedding}

It's time for the weekend!  To all of our Charleston wedding vendors and gorgeous Lowcountry Brides, we wish you all a perfect wedding weekend...and we can't wait to see the pictures!  To wrap up this chilly Fall week, we're sharing a personal favorite of mine.  This Nashville wedding comes to us from the talented Evin Photography and has some truly classic Southern elements.  Bride Bethany stuns in her one-of-a-kind strapless gown while her maids look fab in knee length pewter dresses.  I am absolutely in love with her bouquet, that amazing cake and the adorable ring bearer :)
Thanks to Bethany for sharing her story...

Tell us a little bit about how you two met...
My husband and I met through his aunt and uncle.  We had both previously been in previous relationships and in the same places at the same time but never met until a few years later.  Both of our relationships had ended and they introduced us, somewhat jokingly, and we both had our first “blind date” – the rest is history.  Our first date was at my favorite restaurant and it’s a running joke amongst my friends that I don’t share my macaroni & cheese.  When I came back from the date and reported that I had shared my mac & cheese, everyone knew this was it!

Tell us about how he proposed...
After telling me that there was a surprise date planned, we went to dinner at a nice restaurant. I  had been contemplating all week if perhaps this could be it, but decided it was far too obvious (all part of Jay's plan)! Through out dinner, nothing seemed to be amiss so I decided this was definitely not the night and settled for a wonderful dessert. After dinner, Jay took me driving through downtown Franklin and we looked at all of the historic houses. He decided to park and asked that they walk around - in 90 degree muggy humid weather. Thinking that this was not the surprise but that they were wasting time because they were going to go DO something, I was getting more than a little frustrated at all of the walking and sweating they were doing and was wondering why we couldn't waste time doing something else. Eventually, we made their way to a beautiful neighborhood of the Brownstones. The gate to the courtyard was unlocked and there was a gorgeously lit fountain surrounded by benches, oil lamps and landscaping. Jay couldn't wait much longer and dropped to his knee. We were engaged for right at a year.

Out of the entire day, what was the most memorable moment?
There were two moments that really stand out to both my husband and myself when we look back.  We did a first look and were then able to do pictures prior to the ceremony.  After seemingly a million pictures, it was our turn to sit down for a minute while our photographer worked just with the wedding party.  While we sat in a pew, everything seemed to fade around us and we were able to really just relax into each other and take it in.  It was a sweet moment and one I’m thankful to have.  The other is when we were leaving.  We had a vintage Bentley and chauffer and as we drove away, he took the back road to the interstate.  The road was dark, there was no traffic we drove down in what was many places a tree lined road.  It honestly felt like something out of a movie.  We were exhausted, excited and able to breathe for what seemed like the first time all day.  The driver was going slow and it seemed like in those ten minutes or so, time stood still.

How did you choose your venue? What elements drew you to it?
We chose the chapel we were married in because we fell in love with it the first time we saw it and it was also part of the church we are members at.  Our reception venue appealed because it was in an old historic factory and we loved the exposed brick and old window panes hanging at the entrance.

My grandmother’s wedding ring was attached to my bouquet and my mom made the Mr. & Mrs. Signs that were on our seats.  I loved everything and was really happy with how it all turned out – one of my favorite things was the wedding cake.  I had seen a picture online and fell in love.  I sent it to my fabulous baker and she was able to recreate it perfectly – I love how the ruffles tied in with my dress.  My husband is a huge University of Tennessee fan and his grooms cake was a replica of Neyland Stadium – I think it’s safe to say that was one of his favorites as well!

Tell us a little bit about your menu...
We decided to have delicious food catered by the restaurant of a family friend.  All of the recipes are from “Mamaw”, the original owner, and she helped to oversee that everything turned out beautifully.  We had parmesan crusted chicken, green been bundles, herb roasted potatoes, frozen strawberry salad, fresh rolls.  We also had our special macaroni and cheese brought in!

Looking back on your engagement and wedding, is there any advice you would give to brides in the planning process?
I would give the same advice that was often given to me.  Take a moment for the two of you.  I didn’t realize how very important it was until I look back and am so thankful that we did that.    But it all is such a blur and goes by so quickly; the two moments that I can remember with complete and utter clarity just as if I am looking at a picture are the two moments mentioned above.  I would also say that, yes it is a beautiful day and it is a momentous occasion, but remember that there is life after the wedding as well.  Prepare yourselves and your hearts for your marriage, not just the wedding.  At the end of the day, most people will barely notice the small details.  They really matter to you, which is fine, but in the course of everything, you won’t notice and it won’t matter that the “I Spy” game wasn’t handed out to the children.  What matters is the life that you have started together and memories you have made with your loved ones.

Lisa + Eric {St. Petersburg Yacht Club Wedding}

What a beautiful morning it is in Charleston and it's time to get today started with something I'm smitten with...a coastal wedding!  I just love a beautiful coastal wedding.  There's something so relaxing about being on the water...it's just bound to put everyone in a partying kinda mood!  Which is exactly what happened when Lisa + Eric were wed this past Spring in lovely St. Petersburg, Florida.  After a traditional ceremony at St. Paul's Catholic Church, the newlywed couple joined their bridal party and the fabulous team at K and K Photography for some seriously stunning group shots under a magnificent Oak tree.  They spent the rest of the evening at St. Petersburg Yacht Club where they treated their guests to a relaxing waterside atmosphere, delicious food and a kickin' band!

Jordyn + Joe {Myrtle Beach Engagement}

It's October and you know what that means in South Carolina...it's time for the Fair!  From the bright lights and joyful rides to the deep fried Snickers bars (yum!) and fantastic entertainment, you can't beat a cool crisp October evening at the Fair.  Last week, the South Carolina State Fair kicked off in the Capitol City and in just a  few days the Coastal Carolina Fair begins in Ladson.  In honor of all the fun that's to be had in the Palmetto State over the next few weeks, we just HAD to share Jordyn + Joe's (you may remember their gorgeous wedding we  shared this past summer) Pavilion Nostalgia Park engagement session from our talented friend Gillian Reinhardt of Carolina Studios.  The Groom, Joe, was not thrilled about the idea of taking engagment photos, so his one request was it had to be somewhere fun and what better place than the Pavilion!  To give the session a little variety, the couple then headed over to the beach to catch the sunset and wrap up the day.
