CARLY & PATRICK
Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park wedding
Beaufort, South Carolina
In 2014, Carly Hinchman & Patrick Milyo met while at King and Duke, an Atlanta restaurant, where both were grabbing a drink to celebrate their spots on Jezebel Magazine’s Most Eligible Atlanta list. After catching Patrick’s eye that evening, the pair reunited three days later for an unforgettable night on the dance floor —Patrick was even able to squeeze in some of his signature splits. Before long, two of Atlanta’s most eligible were officially off the market.
After a surprise proposal at Reynolds Plantation, Carly put her plans in motion for a celebration in downtown Beaufort. “My parents own a house on Lady’s Island,” explains Carly. “The first time I saw Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park I knew it was the spot where I wanted to be married.” And while Carly was concerned the logistics might be a nightmare, planner Lindsay Jones of L. Events helped the couple create the summer evening celebration along the Beaufort River, the way she had always envisioned.
On the hunt for the perfect backless gown, Carly set out with her little sister to track down her dream dress. Their search took them to Winnie Couture in Atlanta, GA where she finally had her princess moment in an open-back design with a layered tulle skirt and lace bodice. She finished off her summertime look with loose beach waves and warm, natural makeup from Bride’s Side Beauty to complement her sun-kissed glow. Subdued shades of pink, blue, and green combined for the subtle palette for this waterfront affair. The nine bridesmaids wore pale blue Show Me Your Mumu dresses in the style of their choice with beach-inspired locks. Patrick and his crew kept it coastal in linen suits with baby blue button downs and dark blue ties.
Sticking with tradition, Carly & Patrick passed on a first look in favor of sharing the emotional moment with their guests at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park. Carly made her ceremony entrance on the arm of her father and headed down a petal-covered aisle as 165 guests (and a crowd of passers-by) looked on. She met Patrick under a natural arbor adorned with hydrangeas, roses, blue thistle, and greenery, as they swapped heartfelt vows between the palmetto trees. At the conclusion of the joyful ceremony, guests waved their ribbon wands to honor the newly married couple.
Once the vows were complete, guests made their way to the tent where the team at Urban Poppy created an airy, summer atmosphere. Pale pink linens topped the seating tables which were surrounded by natural Chloe chairs and finished off with full, garden-style centerpieces. Crystal chandeliers were accented with hanging blooms in shades of white and pink to add a whimsical touch to the reception. After a Lowcountry-themed menu, attention turned to the five-layer cake from Savannah Custom Cakes. “Having the perfect wedding cake was actually one of the most important special touches on our wedding day,” says Carly. The final product was adorned with sugar flowers and featured a cream cheese frosting with both banana and carrot cake layers, and it tasted just as beautiful as it looked.
For an added treat, Patrick’s mother made buckeyes — an Ohio specialty confection — which were served in individual ‘C+P’ stamped boxes. As the night progressed, a sea of pastels washed over the dance floor as customized favors were divvied out. Bartenders started the trend by pouring drinks in custom stadium cups featuring an American flag and the phrase, “Making Marriage Great Again” while the crowd waved ribbon wands in the air. Guests also received “Namaste Y’all” hats as a nod to Carly’s successful yoga studio. And in true fairytale fashion, the couple departed in a shower of pastel confetti as they hopped into a horse-drawn carriage before embarking on their Hawaiian honeymoon.
