Magnolia Plantation Wedding {Emily + Andrew}

Emily + Andrew tied the knot at, hands down, one of our favorite Lowcountry wedding venues…the gorgeous Magnolia Plantation and Gardens!  Emily stunned in an off-the-shoulder, lace gown that she paired with a perfect pair of loafers, while her bridesmaid dazzled in a peach gown.  Lucky for us, the talented Carmen Ash Photography was there to capture the moment as the couple said ‘I do’ in a dreamy, outdoor ceremony under the oaks.  Don’t you just love those umbrellas?  With the assistance of the crew at Intrigue Design & Events, the sweet couple treated their guests to quite the reception including tasty, Lowcountry cuisine from Good Food Catering (let me get some of those ham biscuits!), a heavenly dessert station, cigar bar and late night snacks!  Thanks to Absolutely Charleston, Emily + Andrew exited in a sea of sparklers as they departed under the Charleston stars.

Oh, girls!  We’re kicking off this week with a Lowcountry wedding from one of my favorite places on Earth…the one-and-only, Kiawah IslandRiverland Studios was behind the camera for this gorgeou,s Fall wedding at the luxurious Cassique Golf Club.  Thanks to the uber-creative team at Charleston Stems, Kim + Billy incorporated chic accents of cotton into their heavenly wedding day decor filled with a beautiful color palette of pinks, greens and blues.  They used turquoise chevron (which I love!) as the pattern for the programs, place cards, and signs.   I’ll tell you what, I don’t think you could find a more perfect ceremony location…swoon-city!

Pepper Plantation Wedding {Schayla + TJ}

If you asked me the best time of the year to get married in Charleston I would  say, hands down, October is the month to shoot for.  Granted, January’s been pretty fab this year!  By that time of the year, it’s usually cooled off a bit and you’re likely to find yourself with a gorgeous 70 degree, Lowcountry evening.  Schayla + TJ choose the picturesque Pepper Plantation out in Awendaw to host their dreamy, Fall nuptials, and luckily for us, Charleston wedding vendor, CM Photography, was on hand to capture all the gorgeous details!

Thanks to this crazy, springlike weather, we’ve all had a hankerin’ to hightail it straight to the beach!  So, what better way to spend our Wedding Wednesday with a dreamy, Wild Dunes Wedding that will have you dying to stick your toes in the sand.  Beth + Jeff tied the knot this past September in the perfect coastal affair.  Luckily, our friends at Richard Bell Photography were on hand to document every single moment.  Their blue and white color palette couldn’t have been better suited for the beach.  Don’t you just love that bouquet?

What’s the Difference Between a Wedding Planner and a Wedding Designer?

HR
HR
charleston wedding planners

I’m constantly chatting with brides via email, on facebook or even twitter.  Most of their questions I can handle, but sometimes I’ve got to turn it over to the experts…and lord knows the Lowcountry is home to many!  To shed some light on one of the most popular topics, I decided to bring in Caitlin Sullivan + Lauren Burtis of the fabulous Calder Clark Designs to answer the age old question, “What’s the difference between a wedding planner and a wedding designer.” So ladies, take it away….

Newly engaged couples often question the difference between a wedding planner and wedding designer, and which professional better suits their needs. Simply stated, a wedding planner is a logistician. A planner’s role is to lead the client to the correct vendors, determine how to transport guests from point a to point b, help manage the budget, keep the client on track throughout the planning process, and make sure everything runs efficiently on the big day. There is tremendous value in having a planner for your wedding because it allows brides the luxury of enjoying their engagement and they ensure that the months leading up, and the big day, run as smoothly as possible.

On the other hand, a wedding designer focuses on the look and feel of the day, much like an interior designer. A wedding designer has a good understanding of spatial planning and is, therefore, able to think through the layout and flow, and what works or doesn’t work in an event setting, which is paramount when it comes to an event’s integrity. When hiring a wedding designer, the client can expect someone to translate their ideas and loves into a cohesive look. A designer also understands the importance of basic lighting components. For example, well-designed weddings, like interior spaces, need ambient lighting such as votives and table lamps, task lighting such as pinspots and uplights, and overhead lighting such as chandeliers in order to feel complete. A wedding designer also has the ability to give the bride advice on where they should splurge, and where they should save their money. They know that elements such as a beautiful hand painted dance floor or a floral centerpiece draping from tabletop to floor, have incredible impact on an event, while some elements such as ceremony programs might be less impactful. A wedding designer’s value lies in their ability to create well-designed events with strong emphasis on details and decor.

We at Calder Clark Designs are a team of both planners and designers; we pride ourselves on our ability to balance all aspects of our job including both logistical planning and event design. We get to know our clients well and pull out elements that are special to them; whether it be serving a family recipe, or including a pattern or color palette that inspired the interior of their home. Our goal is for guests to leave our events feeling like every detail was custom to the bride and groom, and was a reflection of them. Additionally, because we are full service, we give our brides and grooms the ability to step back and be the guests of honor, while their parents host, and everything continues to run smoothly because we are behind the scenes. As wedding designers and planners, we find that every day brings something new, and we love the challenge of balancing it all for every couple’s special day.

Heritage Plantation Wedding {Jessica + TJ}

Today’s fab Lowcountry wedding comes to us straight from the talented Carolina Studios by Gillian Reinhardt.  The couple, Jessica + TJ, tied the knot at one of Myrtle Beach’s most-sought-after venues, Heritage Plantation.  Thanks to Gillian for filling us in on all the details!  “I’m not sure I’ve ever met 2 people that were more destined to be together. Jessica & TJ met in Firefighter school. They now work apart but are just some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Jessica is OBSESSED with pinterest! Her whole wedding theme was based on it. The cool thing was she did all of the details herself and they looked so professional! A friend of the family did the cupcake table, all her little signs around the venue were from pinterest and the band, N’Tranze, was the finishing touch. The wedding was great with an even greater party.”

Charleston Engagement {Tim + Rachel}

We’re headed into what is sure to be a fabulous, January weekend.  I mean, we’re talking 75 degrees and sunny!  Is it springtime already!?!  So, in honor of this beautiful weather, I thought a gorgeous Charleston engagement from our pal Britt Croft Photography would be the perfect way to get the celebration started.  Tim + Rachel started things off dressed in the Steelers Save the Dates at the beach with their adorable, four-legged friend Bella before heading downtown to enjoy the historic Holy City!
