Tiffany + Kevin {Washington Wedding}

HR
HR
I love when I open my inbox and I see a completed questionnaire from one of our brides.  I think it’s so easy to get caught up in all the craziness that wedding planning brings and it’s not until after the wedding that you can take a step back and really see what is truly important.  I’m excited to share today’s Washington Wedding from CALIMA Portraits along with Bride Tiffany’s heartfelt answers.  The photography is just beautiful and Tiffany + Kevin are a precious couple.  Make sure you read which image is her favorite…it made me tear up a bit!

Tell us a little bit about how you met your husband…
Kevin and I are from the same hometown and have a lot of mutual friends, so we saw each other here and there throughout the past 7 years. We didn’t become close though until about 4 years ago when I moved back home and was looking for a place to live, he conveniently had a room to rent in his new house and we quickly became inseparable.

Tell us about the proposal…
We were staying at a nice resort a couple days before Thanksgiving, at the end of the night we were just laying in bed talking about our life together and he pulled the ring out. It was sweet and great timing. I found out later that he had been trying so hard the whole day/night to find the perfect moment. We were engaged for 1.5 years before the wedding.

Your wedding was filled with tons of gorgeous details.  Did any have special meaning? What was your favorite part?
That is tough. Having such a homemade wedding, most of the details were personal. A couple of my favorite things were writing our own vows and having a good friend officiate, our arbor made by my dad and brother, and our table runners that I worked on with my mother in law.

Out of the entire day, what was the most memorable moment?
Another hard question.  I think the most memorable part for me was walking down the aisle and seeing my husband’s face, even though we had our first look pictures it was like seeing him for the first time.  He normally isn’t a very emotional guy, but he was sobbing.  I remember thinking, ‘this is it, this is forever.’  Our whole wedding was extremely emotional and heartfelt.  It was exactly what I wanted.

How did you choose your venue?
We were on a pretty strict budget and we preferred an outdoor wedding. The park had everything we were looking for, a gorgeous backdrop, wide open space, and the freedom to bring in our own food, etc.

Tell us about the menu…
Another very personal part of our wedding was the food.  There was sooo much of it.  A family friend barbecued, we had ribs, pulled pork and chicken.  Then our moms and aunts made a bunch of different kinds of salads.  Our cake was made by one of my bridesmaids, and my mother-in-law and aunt made about 20 pies.  Then my mom also made cookies and brownies.  It was over the top!

What’s your favorite picture from your wedding?
I love all of our pictures, and it’s hard not to choose one of Kevin at the alter or our first dance.  Part of dreaming about my wedding has always been the daddy/daughter dance and my dad giving me away.  I felt like I was a little girl again.  I think this picture captures the emotion perfectly.

Knowing what you know now, is there any advice you would give to future brides?
It is never too early to start planning, or to get started on projects.  I thought I had all the time in the world with a year and a half to plan, but it goes by fast and you want to enjoy the days leading up to the wedding.  Also, as everyone says, the day is a complete blur, take that time to enjoy yourself and your new husband.  Don’t stress the little details that people won’t ever notice.

The weather’s got me shifting gears a bit.  Now, instead of thinking about a hot summer wedding, I can’t get my mind off a cool fall bash.  It’s reminding me how clutch it is to take into consideration the season while planning your wedding, especially when knocking out your menu.  Serving warm seasonal items when the air is brisk will make your guests feel nice and cozy…and what’s more cozy than a tasty soup.

Passed Hors d’Oeuvres

One of my favorite ways to welcome guests is with a delicious shot o’ soup.
Served in a small shot glass and garnished anyway you please, your guests will love the creativity.  A small helping of a delicious warm soup is the perfect way to get the reception off to a good start and get your guests excited about the rest of the menu.

First Course

Instead of kicking off your seated affair with a boring ol’ salad, try treating your guests to a little something different.  Highlight the Lowcountry cuisine with an old favorite like She Crab Soup or a yummy seafood bisque.  If you’ve got dietary restrictions in your crowd try a Tomato Basil Bisque.

Straight from the Pot
If you’re having a more casual affair for your wedding or rehearsal dinner, a nice hot soup served right from a cast iron pot is not only delicious, but it will add an extra rustic touch to the evening.

Soup Bar
So, we’ve seen there are plenty of ways to get creative with soup presentation.
One of my favorites is a soup bar.  With a variety of flavors and a mix of different vessels, your guests will have a field day with their mini soup taste testing.  If you’re just looking to stick to one type, try a basic potato soup and provide multiple toppings so your friends and family can loaded it up!

Allie + Mike: Ontario, Canada

HR
HR
To beat the Monday blues, we’re kicking off the week with a charming Ontario affair from ilo photo that shows how a cloudy day can make for some lovely images.  Allie + Mike were married in an intimate ceremony in her parent’s rose garden where they were encircled by their closest friends and family.  Afterwards, the bridal party took some time to capture some sweet (and entertaining!) group shots.  They ended the evening with a darling tented reception where Allie incorporate some rustic elements with pops of pink.

Myrtle Beach Wedding {Amy + Brian}

HR
HR
Today’s wedding is elegance meets the coast and you know that’s right up our alley :)   Photographed by the fabulous Gillian Reinhardt of Carolina Studios, this stunner took place just up the road from Charleston at The Breakers Resort in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  The gorgeous couple, Amy + Brian, actually call Maryland home but since the groom’s family resides in South Carolina they decided they couldn’t resist a Lowcountry wedding (and let’s be honest, who can blame them?).  The sounds of Pan Fusion‘s steel drum welcomed guests to the ceremony as the couple said ‘I do’ in front of a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean.  Afterwards, the lighthearted duo and crew made their way down to the beach to capture some very frame-able pictures…seagulls and all!

Kylene + Adam’s Carnival Engagement Session

HR
HR
Hope everyone was able to soak up the last few days of summer this weekend!  Now that cooler weather is right around the corner, I can’t help but get a teensy-bit excited that it’s almost Fair season :)   I LOVE when the fair comes to town, and let’s be honest…who doesn’t.  I’m a big fan of the lights, cotton candy, the games and, of course, anything deep-fried (preferably Snickers or Oreos but I’m not picky).  Last year, my husband and I went to the SC State Fair in Columbia and had a fabulous time at the Boyz II Men concert (don’t judge, it was a blast!).  So, to build up some anticipation for when the Fair comes rolling thru your town, we wanted to kick off this week with Kylene + Adam’s fun engagement session from the talented Virginia Beach team of  Grant & Deb.

Charleston Weddings {Lowcountry Inspiration Board}

HR
HR
Hi!  I’m Amanda from baci designer stationery + events, a custom stationery and event planning boutique located in Northeast Ohio.  A huge thank you to Erin for having me today :o )  My husband and I lived in Charlotte, North Carolina for three years and while we were there our love for the south grew greater with each year that passed.  We loved it so much that in 2006 we were engaged while visiting Isle of Palms near Charleston (hands down our favorite place on earth!!)!  While we were sad to leave, our need to be closer to our families prevailed and we moved back to the Midwest a few years ago.  Everyday we miss all the things we adored so much about the south – the perfect weather, the soft southern accents that accompanied some of the most wonderful people and of course, the food!!  So I thought there wasn’t a more perfect audience to create a Lowcountry Inspiration Board for than you all!  I envision the warm, vintage palette at an outdoor wedding on the land of a local plantation followed by a fabulous black tie reception in the main house complete with a fresh-caught seafood dinner, finishing off the night with a fully stocked cigar bar.  Southern charm at its best!

It’s Thursday and I’m going on vacation tomorrow (sorry to rub it in!.  Hopefully, I’ll be productive today…but I’m not making any promises.  I’m so excited I kinda can’t stand it but I’m even more pumped to share today’s real wedding with you all.  Yesterday we featured Peter + Nicole’s rustic Cotton Dock Rehearsal Dinner and today we’re following it up with their winter wedding that I’m pretty sure you’re going to fall in love with.  Once again, Peter + Nicole enlisted the talents of The Daniels and Eventa Bella and, no surprise, they did not disappoint.  The couple hosted their guests for an evening of live music by Charleston favorite, Plane Jane, at the picturesque Pepper Plantation,.  It was the perfect backdrop for Nicole’s rustic pewter color palette, cozy lighting and of course, some cowboy boots!
